Parents find many ways to encourage their children. This is especially true when they’re having a hard time or fighting to regain good health. Chris Askew from Florida had a very unique way of showing support for his son and other premature infants in the NICU. During his son’s stay, Askew posted a daily dance video online.

Dylan Askew was born in Orlando during January. Since he was 10 weeks premature, this four-pound, four-ounce baby boy was immediately whisked away to the NICU to receive specialized medical care according to GMA. Both of his parents constantly visited him while he was there, blanketing him with as much love as possible.

With assistance from an army of doctors and nurses, Dylan fought day and night for his life.

During his son’s hospital stay, Askew found a creative way to support his son and encourage other parents every day. He posted himself dancing alone and with a variety of persons including fellow firefighters, strangers on the street, and the Orlando Magic Dancers. Venues were just as diverse and one of dad’s dances even happened after he rappelled down a rock-climbing wall.

After 47 days in the NICU, Dr. Anthony Orsini gave little Dylan a clean bill of health and cleared him for the trip home. Before leaving, Chris Askew posted one more dance. This time, he involved as many NICU staff members as possible to celebrate his son’s return home, as the video shows.

Doesn’t a dancing dad like this one make you want to get up and dance? What do you think of Askew’s one-man campaign to boost NICU morale? Perhaps you helped yourself and others through a similarly stressful situation with your own brand of creative work. Tell us about your thoughts and experiences!
