Premature Babie Born At Just One Pound Comes Home After 100 Days In The NICU At Last

Babies born prematurely face many challenges. Their bodies aren't fully prepared to take on the world on their own so they need assistance from medical staff and technology to keep them alive.

For Finn James Hill, a 1lb 2oz preemie born on May 21, 2019, at Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, Florida, those challenges were far greater than most babies. Because of his size, Finn needed round-the-clock care for months. Doctors only gave him a 50% chance of survival when he was born at 24-weeks gestation. The journey to that fateful day of delivery was a difficult one for Finn's parents, Jessica and Chris Hill.

They struggled for nine years with infertility, enduring several rounds of IVF until finally settling on embryo adoption. The Hills connected with a couple via Facebook and decided to adopt eight of their embryos. Although they quickly became pregnant, they lost the baby to a miscarriage.

The determined couple decided to try again, becoming pregnant with twins after the second round of embryos were implanted. Unfortunately, one of the twins died at 10 weeks gestation. The Hills desperately prayed that Baby A would make it to a successful delivery. Things were moving along until Jessica was diagnosed with a blood clot at 24 weeks, causing her water to break and facing the couple to make the difficult decision of whether or not to deliver Finn early reports ABC. After doctors advised the couple that delivering him was safer than keeping him in utero, Finn James entered the world on May 21, 2019, at just 1lb 2oz.

During his nearly four months spent in the NICU, Finn underwent several surgeries and procedures to help his little body get to where it needed to be. Jessica described one of the most amazing NICU moments as the time she first got to hold Finn. Prior to holding him, she and Chris were only able to touch Finn through an incubator. Their baby instantly took to skin-to-skin contact and he started to thrive.

Now at 5lbs 5oz, Finn is enjoying his time at home with his adoring parents. Friends and family have showered the family of three with love, even starting a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses and a Facebook page to keep followers up-to-date on Finn's progress.
