A wedding is supposed to be one of the most special days in the bride and groom's lives. Unfortunately, this wedding in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which was due to take place on Sunday, was full of heartache instead. As the groom was waiting for his soon-to-be wife at the altar, she was suffering from a stroke that would prove fatal.

Jessica Guedes was heading to the church that was to be the wedding venue when she told others in the limo that she was experiencing pain in her neck and was feeling dizzy. Initially, it was believed that she was simply suffering from anxiety related to the upcoming wedding.

However, this was not the case. She was experiencing preeclampsia, a pregnancy-related disorder related to high blood pressure that sometimes affects pregnant women, and soon fell unconscious. Internal bleeding had caused her to suffer from a stroke.

One of her cousins rushed into the venue, desperately seeking help, and Flavio Goncalvez, her fiance, rushed to her, saying to the now-conscious woman, "Baby, I'm here." He then used his training as a firefighter lieutenant to provide first aid with the assistance of fellow firefighters who were also at the wedding.

But it was not enough, and she was declared brain dead after arriving at Pro Matre Paulista Maternity Hospital. Fortunately, Sophia, her baby, was successfully delivered at 29 weeks at just 2.05 pounds and 13.5 inches. She will need to undergo neonatal intensive care for at least a couple of months before she can leave the hospital.

Relatives told the Mirror that Jessica had appeared healthy leading up to that day and was engaging in regular physical activity and eating a nutritious diet. She had also experienced no previous signs of high blood pressure.

"Jessica was a really cheerful person who loved life, an enlightened and strong being of light. I was so looking forward to becoming her husband and becoming a father," the groom said. "I will be strong and I will not weaken in the face of adversity. The love of my life taught me how to respect and treat a woman well so that I could learn how to take care of our daughter."

Her funeral was held on Tuesday, after her organs were donated. Friends have raised more than $25,000 to cover the medical costs related to what had happened.

Our condolences go out to the grieving family. Make sure you pass this story along to your friends and family.
