Expecting a child can be both one of the most joyous times in a woman’s life and one of the hardest. As expectant mothers patiently await the birth of their child, they must also endure some painful physical reminders that they are carrying a human being inside their womb. Usually, strangers and passersby are more than willing to accommodate pregnant women, letting them have the last seat on the bus or helping them with everyday chores.

Nevertheless, some aren’t so understanding and just go about their daily routine. A pregnant woman in England recently ignited a firestorm of debate over whether it is appropriate to go out of one’s way to help an expectant mother.

According to the Daily Mail, the young mom had made a large grocery order for delivery to her apartment from a supermarket in the UK. Expecting the packages to be delivered straight to her door, she was shocked when the deliveryman placed them on the landing of her stairwell. Upset by the development, Amy asked the deliveryman to help her bring the packages up to her apartment, pointing out that she was pregnant and her son was being fussy.

The delivery man refused to help the harried mom as she huffed and puffed up the stairs. Even worse, the store did not bag some of the items, making her work all the harder to get the items up to her kitchen. Taping her conversation with the deliveryman, Amy points out that helping her with the items is his job as he leaves the building.

Amy took to Facebook to vent her frustration over the delivery mishap. Her post, which has now since been deleted, quickly went viral. While many of the responses to her post are sympathetic, others feel that Amy is overreacting and that the deliveryman didn’t do anything wrong.

One youtube user wrote in the comments:

"did you see how many crates she ordered and then expects the guy to carry it 2 flights of stairs for her...he probably has 15 to 20 deliveries to make ...his back would be screwed ! why doesn't she order weekly so the weight would be easier for the driver to help...or why not arrange the delivery for a time when a friend/relative can help her. after risking injury to his back going up all the stairs with heavy crates he would be exhausted then he has to jump back in the truck and drive 'safely' to the next delivery for which he is now behind schedule. zero consideration shown for this driver here ....."

In response, the supermarket sent a bottle of Champagne and flowers as an apology to the young mother.

"We always try to offer our customers great service but clearly we got it wrong on this occasion and we are truly sorry." a spokesperson for the supermarket told the Daily Mail. "We have offered our full apologies to Ms Botten and are in contact with her to try and make amends."
