Pregnant Mom Faces Jail Time For Her Child's Potty-Training Mishap

Potty training requires patience. Parents with toddlers know that any attempts at proper potty training are tough enough at home, and even more so when you are out on the road. Pregnant mom, Brooke Johns, found out not everyone is sympathetic to "potty-training emergencies."

Brooke was out driving with her three-year-old son when the youngster had to go to the bathroom. With no public restrooms nearby, Brooke pulled into a service station parking lot to let her son, Cohen, use the restroom. And she ended up receiving a disorderly conduct citation.

The garage's restroom was a bit of a way away, and Brooke would have needed to carry her son to it. Brooke's doctor warned her about carrying anything heavy. Remember, she is pregnant. Cohen had to go real bad and started to wet himself. So, mom found herself with only one choice: let him urinate in the parking lot.

“He was peeing before his pants were even all the way down, so obviously he had to go," Brooke stated to WRDW. A local deputy saw things transpire and decided to write out the citation.

Typically, adults would be hit with a citation or even a misdemeanor for such behavior. A toddler's behavior, however, would usually be overlooked. In Augusta, Georgia, the town where the incident took place, Cohen's mom felt the sting of the law.

The maximum penalty there is a $1,000 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Brooke hopes she can get the charged dismissed in court, and her court date is right around the time she is expected to give birth. Let's hope everything works out well for her.

The story probably shocks you, and it will likely shock your friends. Keeping the story moving in the public eye, however, might be a good idea. Maybe legislators could add a little clarity to the law as far as dealing with toddlers goes.
