Nereida Araujo would have normally stayed home this Thanksgiving season. Unfortunately, her family had a serious reason for taking a long trip despite Araujo being in her 38th week of pregnancy. The trip did not go as planned, as the expectant mother, her family, and the other passengers on the plane were witness to a sweet holiday miracle.

The family, consisting of Nereida, her husband, and her two children were desperately attempting to reach Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving. The mom was concerned about her grandmother who had recently received a cancer diagnosis. Afraid this may be the last holiday she would have to spend with her loving grandmother, she cleared the flight with her doctor and the family headed north.

Coming from Florida, Nereida expected to feel a little discomfort during the lengthy flight. She settled in after takeoff and proceeded to nap on the way to their layover in Charlotte, North Carolina. She awoke suddenly from her nap to the feeling of a small pop in her lower back and some dampness. Realizing her water had broken and she was now in labor, the calm mom woke her husband.

A nurse was luckily one of the people on the flight and was able to help Nereida practice her breathing. The plane continued its route to Charlotte as Nereida received guidance and support from several of the passengers on the flight. Once the plane landed in Charlotte, Nereida, and her family were met by first responders who were on-site to help with the delivery and transport the mom and baby to the hospital.

Nereida and her family did not make it to Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving, but they have made a promise to the grandmother, Shirley Fischer, that the whole family including the new baby, will be there to see her as soon as possible. Nereida gave thanks to the airline staff in a Facebook post, and also thanked all the others that helped her and her family during the exciting ordeal. The newest family member arrived at 2:00 in the afternoon of November 27th. To commemorate the special birth, Nereida gave her baby a sweet and meaningful name. Lizyana " Sky" Taylor will certainly have an interesting story to share when people ask how she got her name.
