Pregnant Dog Is Locked In Backyard And Left Behind As Owners Move Away

Most of us can't imagine abandoning one of our pets, let alone one that's pregnant with nine puppies. Unfortunately, not everyone is so compassionate. Java the dog's owners abandoned her with no food or water, and on top of it all with nine puppies to deliver in Plantain, Florida in 2014.

This dog could have easily died or become feral. Luckily, a series of miracles led to Java delivering her puppies in a safe shelter and finding a loving home that would cherish this special dog.

They say that dogs are man's best friend. They're kind, loyal, and willing to follow us to the ends of the earth. Unfortunately, none of that mattered to Java's owners. They abandoned her behind a rental property with no food or water, leaving her to fend for herself.

They even locked her in the backyard so she couldn't escape and find help. And to make matters worse, Java was about to deliver nine beautiful puppies. How could anyone abandon a pregnant dog? We have no idea, but her story might have ended very differently if it weren't for the help of a few compassionate humans. The video created by Florida Boxer Rescue below shows Java's journey of being rescued.

The owner of the rental property found Java just in time. He contacted the people that had been renting the property, but they claimed that they had never heard of Java in their lives. A woman named Kristen brought Java to the vet so she could deliver her puppies.

When you watch the video, it's clear that Java is a friendly and lovable pooch. She allows total strangers at the vet's office to pet her, rub her head, and give her affection. Java takes it all in with an unmistakable smile on her face. Some dogs would be wary of humans after being abandoned, but it seems that Java doesn't care about that. She just wants someone to love her. The vet gave her a full inspection and determined that she was mostly healthy except for an ear infection. Unfortunately, the vet's office didn't have room for this abandoned animal. Her helpers took her to a shelter, but they couldn't find room for her there, either. What could they do for this special dog?

Thankfully, Java's owners found a place for her to stay: the Nob Hill Animal Clinic. Once she reached the clinic, Java felt safe enough to deliver her puppies. She gave birth to nine puppies: four girls and five boys. It was an exhausting night for Java, but she was as friendly and lovable as ever. She even let the staff members handle her puppies. "She's a very good mother," one of the staff members said in the video below.

During the birthing process, we see Java licking her babies clean and letting them snuggle against her body. "They come out so fast," one of the staff members says in the video. It's hard to believe that she had the strength to give birth after everything she's been through. But Java gave birth to nine happy, healthy, wriggling puppies. And the puppies couldn't be cuter. While Java gets an X-ray, one of the staff members films the newborn pups. They snuggle next to each other, squeaking and making adorable little noises. One puppy licks another puppy's ear. They look so soft and cuddly that you just want to pick them up and snuggle them in your arms.

That's a lot of puppies, but luckily, Nob Hill Animal Clinic has plans for them. The staff member says that the puppies will be delivered to another rescue clinic that has room for them.

"You did a great job, sweetheart," one of the staff members gushes to Java. "And now you can just go be you!" When the puppies are taken to the rescue shelter, Java will be able to find her own forever home with the loving family that she deserves. We can't imagine a more fitting ending for this incredible animal. When Java is placed in the back of the vehicle with her puppies, she immediately lays down and snuggles with her babies. It's clear that Java is a devoted mother. And in the end, Java found her forever home thanks to Florida Boxer Rescue. It's a happy ending that might make you shed a tear or two.

Java's story has a happy ending. But unfortunately, thousands of animals across the United States never get to meet their forever home. Every day, hundreds of animals are abandoned and dropped off at shelters. If they're lucky, they'll be adopted. But many of them are euthanized or spend the rest of their lives waiting for someone to adopt them.
