Bindi Irwin, the 22-year-old “Crikey! It's the Irwins” star, took to social media on Thursday, January 14, to post a photo of her third-trimester baby bump at the Australia Zoo in Queensland. In the snapshot, Bindi Irwin posed with husband Chandler Powell to recreate a family picture of her mother, Terri Irwin, when she was pregnant with Robert Irwin, now 17, nearly two decades ago.

Bindi Irwin and Powell first announced that they were expecting a child on Aug. 11, 2020, in a surprise post to their social media accounts. At the time, Bindi Irwin said that she was still somewhere in her first trimester; assuming the pregnancy goes as planned, the 22-year-old mother-to-be should give birth sometime in late winter or early spring of 2021.

Bindi Irwin updated fans on Instagram again on Sept. 22, 2020, writing that she and Powell are expecting a baby girl. The 22-year-old star posted the announcement alongside a photo of herself, her husband, a giant Aldabra tortoise, and a sonogram of their unborn child.

Thursday’s tweet featured a photo of husband Powell kissing Bindi Irwin’s baby bump alongside an older photo of the late Steve Irwin kissing Terri Irwin’s belly when she was pregnant with Robert Irwin in the early 2000s.

“Recreating a very special moment. Third trimester love. ❤️” Bindi Irwin wrote on Twitter in a pinned post to her more than 700,000 followers. The 22-year-old “Crikey It’s the Irwins” star also posted the photo to her Instagram account, where she received encouraging comments from her husband, the Australia Zoo’s account, and other verified accounts like @thekangaroosanctuary.

“You’re going to be the most incredible parents. We love you Baby Wildlife Warrior💚🎉,” the Australia Zoo wrote.

“Oh a lovely big pouch and joey you have there 💕,” @thekangaroosanctuary added

Bindi Irwin, who has become a conservationist and television star in the spirit of her late father Steve Irwin, married then-24-year-old Powell on March 25, 2020, according to CNN. In keeping with the family’s love for animals, Bindi Irwin and Powell held the secret wedding in the gardens of Australia Zoo in Queensland. As bizarre and unusual as that may seem, the zoo still belongs to the Irwin family — in fact, the family lives there together — as it’s the same facility that Bindi’s grandparents opened in the 1970s. And now, it’s become the place where Bindi Irwin and Powell tied the knot.

“Chandler, When I went to write my vows I found I couldn’t stop writing them,” Bindi Irwin wrote in a April 17, 2020 Instagram post alongside a photo from the wedding. Bindi Irwin continued as she wrote:

“A love like this is meant to be felt, in every part of our soul. Marriage marks an incredible beginning and yet I feel like we’ve already experienced so much life together. We say all the time that it feels like we’ve been married for years. We’ve been a team through life’s wonderful highs and difficult lows. You’ve held my hand as we’ve run towards every new adventure. My dad used to say that I couldn’t marry anyone unless he could swim across the croc pond first. And now, here you are, helping us during our regular crocodile demonstrations.”

Bindi Irwin and Powell decided to get married at the Australia Zoo in part because they wanted to honor Steve Irwin and his legacy.

"Where we got married was such a special place to dad," Bindi previously told PEOPLE in April 2020 of the couple’s secret wedding.

"It's a beautiful little area where he had filmed for many years. It felt really wonderful and just meant to be."

"We had dad's picture with his dog Sui blown up on an easel," Bindi added. "So mom and Robert were standing right next to dad as we exchanged vows. We had a candle-lighting ceremony for him, and it really felt like he was there with us. It was a lovely moment of peace and happiness."

Days after the then-21-year-old conservationist Bindi Irwin tied the knot at the secret candlelit zoo wedding in Queensland, Australia, Bindi’s mother reflected on the fact that her husband didn’t get the chance to see their daughter married.

In the March 28, 2020 post to Terri Irwin’s Twitter account, the then-56-year-old widow wrote an emotional tribute along with a photo of the late Steve Irwin holding his baby son, Robert Irwin, at a wedding. Both Robert Irwin and Steve Irwin were wearing khaki, Steve’s perennial color of choice.

“Remembering @RobertIrwin’s first wedding. I love that Steve and Robert both wore khaki. I know Steve would have worn khaki to Bindi & Chandler’s wedding, too,” Terri Irwin wrote on Twitter. “I wish he could have been there to see the most special day in his daughter’s life. We miss him so much.” In a reply to her mother’s emotional message, which has received an outpouring of support from users on the platform, Bindi Irwin wrote that her mother’s message was “beautiful.”

The late Australian zookeeper, Steve Irwin, was best known for his charming role on the internationally broadcasted show “The Crocodile Hunter.” He died in 2006 at the age of 44 after a stingray pierced his chest while the star was filming a documentary, leaving behind children Bindi and Robert Irwin, according to CNN. The 44-year-old father’s death led to an outpouring of support from fans, environmentalists, and friends of the idiosyncratic television host. Steve Irwin’s show, “The Crocodile Hunter,” was so successful that it appeared in more than 100 countries on cable television. The television star was also a frequent guest on talk shows like “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” to “Live With Regis and Kelly.” He is perhaps most well known and remembered for his enthusiastic catchphrases like “Check out the size of this bloke!”, “Whew, he’s getting cranky!”, “Isn’t she a beauty?”, and “Crikey!”

Tragically, Steve Irwin never got to see his daughter Bindi Irwin marry Powell.

Powell and Bindi Irwin, both animal lovers, met back in 2013, seven years after Steve Irwin’s death, while Powell was visiting Australia for a wakeboarding competition. Shortly thereafter, Bindi Irwin gave the then-16-year-old Powell a tour of the zoo, according to USA Today.

But the couple’s relationship began in earnest in July 2019 when the two got engaged. And in typical Irwin fashion, the pair released a koala back into the wild to celebrate the occasion, USA Today reported.

The following summer, Bindi Irwin and Powell announced that they were expecting a baby.

"We’re going to be parents!! We have a baby Wildlife Warrior on the way coming in 2021. Becoming a dad is the highlight of my life," Powell wrote back in August 2020 when the couple first announced the pregnancy. "I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure and life chapter with my gorgeous wife, @bindisueirwin. Bee, you’re going to be the most amazing mother."

Mother Terri Irwin also celebrated the news online as she wrote:

“This is the best day ever! I am over the moon to announce that @BindiIrwin and @chandlerpowell9 are going to have a baby! Words cannot express the love that is filling my heart. While I wish that Steve was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud.”

As for Bindi Irwin's announcement, the 22-year-old reality television star wrote, “Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you.”

The 22-year-old continued that although she was still in her first trimester, she wanted fans “to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter.” She added:

“We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us.”

Since then, Bindi Irwin and her husband Powell have continually kept their fans abreast of personal news on their social media accounts. Bindi Irwin has more than 4 million followers, many of whom comment on her photos, which she posts almost daily.

Her husband is no less active on social media, often posting photos of animals from koalas to snakes for his more than 400,000 followers on Instagram. Powell often comments on wife Bindi Irwin’s posts as well.

Three days before Bindi Irwin posted the Jan. 14 throwback photo of herself alongside pregnant mother Terri Irwin, the 22-year-old television personality posted a preview of her baby bump on Instagram with the caption: “All the love in the world.”

The response with the most likes? Husband Powell’s comment, with more than 3,000 likes, which read, “Our little family❤️ Baby and I both love you.”

Since 2018, Bindi Irwin has amassed a following of loyal fans partly through her appearances on the Australian reality television show “Crikey! It's the Irwins.” Robert and Terri Irwin — and now Powell — also appear on the show, showcasing their lives as they care for animals at the Australia Zoo. On May 28, 2020, Animal Planet announced that they had renewed the show for a third season.

What do you think about this side-by-side comparison? Does Bindi Irwin look like her mom? Did she and hubby Powell pull-off recreating the throwback photo? Let us know and pass this on to all the Irwin family fans you know!
