Celebrity wildlife conservationist Bindi Irwin, 22, is expecting her first child with her husband, Chandler Powell, 24, less than a year following their intimate, magical zoo wedding. Last weekend, the Australian TV personality took to Instagram to post a heartwarming photo with her cuddled up to Powell as they anxiously await the arrival of their unborn child.

Bindi Irwin took to Instagram last Saturday to share a photo in which she is locked in a loving embrace with her husband of eight months, Chandler Powell. The two snuggled on a balcony as the setting sun slowly descended to behind the mountains in the background, looking happy as can be.

"You are my sunshine," Irwin captioned her post.

The 22-year-old opted for a laid-back look, with her long silky brunette locks worn loose and sporting a simple, black t-shirt. Powell went for a similarly casual look wearing a comfortable, dark-colored, printed t-shirt as he hugged his pregnant wife with a big smile. The 24-year-old doting husband commented on the photo:

"I love you and our group hugs with baby girl."

The sweet duo revealed they are expecting their first child together back in August with a photo uploaded on Irwin's Instagram, in which the couple is shown holding up a tiny Australia zoo shirt. In the caption, the Australian TV personality wrote that their "Baby Wildlife Warrior" is due in 2021.

"Though I'm still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter," Irwin captioned the post. "We couldn't wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us. Please let me know your best advice and send good vibes & prayers to our little sweetheart," she added.

The excited expecting-parents have since then shared regular updates regarding the pregnancy, with many photos of Irwin showing off her growing baby bump and the occasional sonogram. Last month, the mother-to-be posted a short video from a recent visit to her OB-GYN for an ultrasound of their baby girl.

"This is so exciting, look at our daughter!" Irwin said in the video, as the camera turned to show the unborn baby on the screen.

Her ecstatic husband is also heard in the video as he said: "Wow, you can see her heartbeat there. Oh my goodness, she is beautiful and very active."

"Our beautiful daughter is the light of our lives. Beyond thankful that she chose us to be her parents. I can't wait for her to be here next year," she wrote in the accompanying caption for the clip.

Irwin also got candid about what it was like to find out she was pregnant in a post accompanied by a photo of her and Powell holding up their dog, Piggy.

"Discovering that I was going to become a mother will forever be a moment where time stood still. I took a test and ran into the kitchen where Chandler was making us tea," she wrote.

"I started crying tears of pure joy and told my sweetheart husband that my test was positive. ... We sat together with tea talking about the future and how we were going to share such wonderful, life changing news with the people that we love. In that short span of time the gorgeous baby I'm carrying became the most important part of our lives."

"I can't wait to find out what this amazing new soul loves in life, and experience the world all over again through their eyes," Irwin added.

In a more recent post, Irwin shared a photo in which she was sporting a visibly larger baby bump, updating fans that she is now officially in her 26th week of pregnancy. "Our daughter is about the same size as a shingleback lizard," wrote the daughter of the legendary late conservationist Steve Irwin.

Bindi Irwin married her longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell on March 25 this year at Australia Zoo, eight months following their fairytale engagement. The wedding, which was confirmed by both Powell and Irwin on Instagram, happened just hours before Australia enforced new restrictions on weddings and gatherings amid the COVID-19 crisis.

In her Instagram post, the 22-year-old wrote that she and Powell were forced to make a "very difficult decision" and not have guests at the ceremony in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend," she wrote. "There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We've planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn't have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe."

"We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it's lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos. Right now we're encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history," Irwin continued.

"Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens. Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad's memory."

"We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this - stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!"

The ceremony's particular location –– an area at Australia Zoo where the family had filmed for many years –– was chosen for its sentimental meaning for the Irwins. They also had a photo of Steve Irwin, along with his dog Sui, blown up and placed on an easel, so that Terri and Steve's best friend, Wes Mannion, were standing right next to him. While the late Australian legend was could not be there to walk his little girl down the aisle, the youngest Irwin, 17-year-old Robert, stepped up to the task in his stead.  He shared a moving Instagram post accompanying a photo of Bindi and Chandler on their special day; he wrote:

"25/03/2020. This is a day that we will never forget. Bindi and Chandler, words cannot describe how happy and proud I am that today you started your married life and celebrated love during a difficult time for our world. And I was beyond honoured to get to walk Bindi down the aisle today."

He acknowledged the wedding plans changing in order to keep everyone safe and ends on this beautiful note: "It truly was an emotional and beautifully spontaneous day... I know that Dad was with us, and we are all so delighted for your future as husband and wife. I love you both."

The young couple met in 2013 when Powell visited Australia as part of a national wakeboarding competition. According to People, the two first laid eyes on each other when Irwin gave him and his group a tour of Australia Zoo and" hit it off right away."

"It just so happened that Bindi was giving tours that day," Powell told the publication of their first meeting. "I'm like, 'Wow she is amazing.'"

On the other hand, Irwin felt she hit the jackpot when she found a partner who bears so many similarities to her late father. "He loves wildlife and conservation and he has this strength," Bindi says. "Which is necessary when you're jumping on crocs."

Originally from Florida, the former professional wakeboarder moved to Australia in 2018, where he has lived since, working at Australia Zoo with the Irwin brood. "I've got my khaki on and I am loving it!" Powell said of his new home at the time. The two then got engaged in the Summer of 2019 on Irwin's 21st birthday, after six years of dating. Just as she usually does, the young conservationist announced their engagement on her Instagram, posting photos with Powell on the day as she shows off the beautiful diamond ring. "I said 'yes' and 'forever' to the love of my life," Irwin wrote.

Now happily married, Irwin decided to keep her last name – as opposed to adopting her husband's – as a tribute to her famous dad.

"I've kept Bindi Irwin," she told ET's Lauren Zima ahead of their Animal Planet special, Crikey! It's the Irwins: Life in Lockdown. "I think that for me personally, after dad [Steve Irwin] passed away it was really important for me to feel close to him, and having his last name means so much to me."

Chandler added that they talked about the possible name change, but at the end of the day, she's "an Irwin through and through." "Chandler has become an Irwin now," Bindi said with a laugh. "It has become a part of me. Everyone has their own ideas, but the nice thing is that it's 2020 now, anything works!"

More than halfway through her pregnancy already, the lovebirds just can't wait to meet their tiny Powell-Irwin.

"We can't wait to teach our little one about the importance of protecting our planet and the beauty of the wildlife and wild places we love so much," Irwin wrote in an Instagram post. Taking that into account, we expect their little girl will, just like her mom, be an "Irwin through and through."
