Fans used social media to express their deep support for Alex and his family and they have continually shared prayers via social outlets. The survival rate for pancreatic cancer is relatively low. However, Alex is determined to stay focused on beating the odds with the help of the support around him.

The 78-year-old recently spoke out about his diagnosis and his goal of fighting pancreatic cancer.

Speaking to People Magazine, he said:

“I’m pretty satisfied with my life,” the Ontario-born Trebek, 78, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, on stands Friday. “But my wife Jean and I have been together almost 29 years, and I was thinking about President Bush when he died, and all the comments about his life about what a nice guy he is, and how he and his wife had been together 73 years.  I thought, oh my gosh … if I’d just met Jean in my 20s we could have had a longer life together.”

He went on to joke that when he was in his 20s, his now-wife wouldn’t have even been born yet. He says he is thankful for the 29 years they have had together, as well as their 2 wonderful children.
