Prancer, The ‘Demonic Chihuahua,' Gets Adopted At Last

May 04, 2021 by apost team

A chihuahua known for his rough and chilling personality was recently given a chance to be loved for his uniqueness. Prancer, the tiny chihuahua, was adopted in April 2021. His new owner traveled all the way from New Haven, Connecticut, to an adoption center in New Jersey to take the small dog home. Prancer had been known to showcase some less-than-kind mannerisms, and had even been referred to as demonic. This little pup was finally able to show that there was more to him than meets the eye.

Chihuahuas don’t necessarily have the best reputation, as they can sometimes be seen as mean and dramatic by fellow dog lovers. Prancer was no exception to this, as his little body seemed to constantly tremble with hate. His last owner had posted an ad with hopes of getting him adopted, as the family was struggling to handle his consistent attitude.

Ariel Davis from New Haven, Connecticut came across the ad for the small dog. The post stated: “There’s not a very big market for neurotic, man hating, animal hating, children hating dogs that look like gremlins. But I have to believe there’s someone out there for Prancer.” That 'someone' turned out to be Davis, as she had previously adopted and raised another dog similar to Prancer. She knew that she could be the right fit for the small dog, and took action to see if she could potentially meet him and hopefully take him home. Prancer turned out to have even more personality than what the adoption ad had led her to believe.

Finding A Forever Home

Davis emailed the Second Chance Pet Adoption League in New Jersey to see if Prancer was still available for adoption. “Reading about Prancer brought back intense memories of the dog I still love so much,” Davis wrote in her email, talking about her last dog that she had to give up. “I am looking for a companion that I can take proper care of and give a loving home,” she said. Davis seemed like the right fit for the dog, as she didn’t have any other pets, she didn’t have children and she didn’t live with a man, all the things that Prancer seemed to despise.

Luckily, the tiny chihuahua seemed to not mind Davis so much. During an interview with TODAY in April 2021, Davis talked more about why she felt such a strong connection to Prancer and knew that she had to adopt him. “I got there and we just connected,” Davis said. “Prancer took pretty well to me.” A week after taking him home, Davis talked about how well he seemed to be adjusting to his new life. “He is a small, neurotic dog and it’s been hard coming from a chaotic home,” she said. However, Prancer has slowly but surely been making himself at home with his new owner. “We’re both adjusting,” Davis said.

Prancer has even been a good influence on Davis, as he has helped her become more social and feel more comfortable going out to see people. “I’d rather stay home than socialize, but he’s helped me get out of the house actually,” she said. “He’s helping me get out of my shell, and one of my goals is to help him become more adjusted to seeing other people.”

Prancer, The Celebrity Chihuahua

Prancer behaved really well around women specifically, as they didn’t bother him as much. Davis took the dog to meet some of her female coworkers, and Prancer got along well with everyone.

According to TODAY, around 10 other dogs have been adopted from Second Chance Pet Adoption League since Prancer’s story went viral. More people became interested in adopting dogs that appeared a bit rough around the edges or a little quirkier than the rest since Prancer's story was so successful. The adoption center also created a fundraiser featuring the star chihuahua’s face on merchandise like shirts and sweatshirts, with profits going back to the center.

Prancer has even grown a huge fanbase on Instagram. He has already surpassed over 81.9 thousand followers, with plenty of photos and videos posted showing off his unique personality. “I would love to keep everybody in the loop and upload pictures, but I do think that it is important for him to live a normal lifestyle,” Davis said. “We’re both taking it one day at a time, as long as he’s not under any pressure and as long as he’s getting along.” The bio on the celebrity dog’s Instagram reads: “Prancer, known as the demonic chihuahua, has found his new home and is living his best life. A playful, loyal companion, he’s one in a million.”

Despite his overwhelming demeanor, Prancer managed to find his forever home. The small pup was taken in by a loving owner who was ready to care for him and appreciate him for all of his qualities, both good and bad.
