It is often said that the right man in the right place can make all the difference, something that Keith Rollins of Elkridge, Maryland knows all too well. Keith works as a carrier for the United States Postal Service and, while out on his route this week, saw something troubling.

Just starting out a little after 8 a.m., Keith was driving on I-95 when he saw what looked like a head on the side of the road. Speaking with reporters from WUSA, Keith told of how at first, he wasn’t sure if it was a human head or an animal head. Nevertheless, Keith stopped his truck and went to investigate.

Speaking with reporters from WUSA, Keith told of how at first, he wasn’t sure if it was a human head or an animal head. Nevertheless, Keith stopped his truck and went to investigate.

Before stepping onto the pavement, Keith dialed 911 to report the strange object. Earlier that morning, Keith had seen a news report about a missing boy in the area and thought the object on the road might be the child. Approaching the bundle, Keith learned that it was indeed a child.

“He was behind there shivering, cold,” Rollins told WUSA. “He only had a pair of sweatpants on and a sweatshirt, no shoes or socks. So I walked up to him and I said, ‘Hey buddy. How you doing? What’s your name? Are you OK?’ He looked at me, but I didn’t get a response from him.”

“Once I didn’t get a response from him, I decided to just scoop him up, and I took him to my vehicle. I had a sweater that I tried to cover him up with, and turned up the heat and I called the police back and said that I had the little boy in my vehicle, and within a matter of minutes, the police were there.”

After doing what he could to make the boy more comfortable, Keith called 911 a second time, informing them that he had indeed found a child. Police and emergency workers were on the scene in minutes and took the boy to Johns Hopkins Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

Law enforcement confirmed to news outlets that the boy that Keith had found was 2-year-old Ethan Adeyemi, who had gone missing from his home at around 10:40 p.m. the previous night.

Police and firefighters had been searching for Ethan for hours before Keith discovered him on the side of the road. The search included K9 units, drones, and a helicopter. Keith found Ethan, who has autism, about half a mile from his home.

“Giving glory to God that I was able to help at that particular time and be in the correct place at the right time,” Keith explained. “I was just glad to be a part of a good-ending situation. But a hero? Nah, not at all.”

“It was God-ordained that I be in that place at that time. Remarkable, man, remarkable.”
