When officers are dispatched or receive tips about certain scenarios, it's often a mystery what they'll encounter. There's no way to truly validate what other people are experiencing as a problem or emergency. So when police from Camden, Arkansas, got a call about a young boy seemingly lost along a roadside, alone, they really didn't know what to expect. Was he really alone? How old is this boy? Why does it look like he's wandering? These are all questions cops must speculate in a situation like this.

"He looked like someone who had crawled through a bunch of thorns." That was the best description Lieutenant Nathan Greely of Ouachita's detective criminal investigation unit could offer on the boy.

And the boy was, indeed, alone along a roadside. As it turned out, the 3-year old toddler was identified as Kylen Holliman. Police brought the boy back to headquarters and quickly uploaded a photo on their website, and it didn't take more than half an hour before his story began to unfold.

Kylen and his 1-year old brother, along with their mother, had been missing for days. So why was it only Kylen who had showed up? Police officers sensed that something didn't seem right. They immediately went back to the area Kylen was found and started a search. Surely there was more to be found.

Hidden from the roadside, a car wreck was discovered not far from where police found Kylen. Destroyed in a ravine, impossible for anyone to see, they realized that this car is where Kylen had wandered from. As police investigated further, they found Kylen's brother still strapped into his seat, smiling from ear to ear upon his rescue.

"You could tell he was just happy someone was there," cops explained. "It didn't matter if it was a complete stranger or not, we gave him the comfort that he needed."

Unfortunately, their mother had died from the tragic car accident. It's no wonder Kylen was wandering alone--he was probably just trying to survive the best way a 3-year old could. The boys went without food and water for days and, had Kylen not been found, there's no telling what the outcome of this situation would have been.

The boys are being cared for by family. A teary-eyed grandfather, suffering the loss of his own child, refers to Kylen as a hero for somehow managing to escape. You can catch up on all this story offers in this video.
