Police Officers And Firefighters Team Up In Order To Rescue Newborn Kittens From Storm Drain

Few things are more adorable than newborn kittens. Unfortunately, along with their unflappable cuteness, kittens are often hampered by a heavy dose of clumsiness as well. While they are curiously exploring their newfound environment, it is not uncommon for them to find themselves stuck or in over their heads. Normally, this just means that they may have climbed up onto a table that is a little too high. Unfortunately, they can often find themselves in real trouble sometimes. Sadly, this was the case with two tiny kittens who found themselves trapped in a storm drain in Bountiful City, Utah this September.

The tiny kittens are so young that their eyes were barely open. In fact, it is unclear whether the kittens fell into the storm drain, or if they were born there and abandoned by their mother. In either case, rescuing them was of utmost importance. Left alone, they could starve or be hurt by vermin. Worse, if it had started raining, they could easily have drowned.

Unfortunately, getting to the kittens was impossible without removing a heavy storm drain. This would not only be impossible for one person, and it would probably be illegal to do without city permission. Luckily, however, the authorities arrived.

Working in law enforcement or fire fighting is a difficult and thankless job. Almost by definition, whenever these fine folks are called out to an incident, the people there don't want to see them. Because of this, many service members of the community will often say that they enjoy responding to calls like these. The stress is a little lower, and the reward is palpable.

Working together, the fire department and police officers were able to remove the storm drain. The first kitten was easy to grab. The officer lowered himself down into the storm drain and was able to quickly bring the kitten to safety. The second kitten decided to put up more of a fight. Because it had crawled down a long drainage tube, it was impossible to reach in and get the second struggling kitten. Thankfully, the team travels with tools. Using a pole normally used for opening second-floor windows during a fire, the fire department was able to step in and pull the kitten gently down the tube into the gentle hands of the firefighter.

Although both kittens were understandably startled and hungry, they were both surely thankful for being rescued. Once they were both safely out of the drain, they were turned over to animal control, according to the below video. Although they are too young to adopt out now, they will eventually be available to bring into your home. It's about time to start picking out names, then. What about Stormy and Rain?
