Police Officer Takes Teen To Job Interview Right After Pulling Him Over: 'Something Came Upon Me'

Police officers often have to make tough calls when it comes to enforcing the law. Protecting our communities is a big responsibility, and police officers are given wide latitude when it comes to looking out for the public’s best interest. Sometimes, doing the right thing requires an officer to ignore a petty offense.

Officer Roger Gemoules was on a routine patrol in Cahokia, Illinois when he noticed a problem with a car. The side window was broken and, after doing a check, Officer Gemoules found that the license plate was expired as well. Pulling the vehicle over, Officer Gemoules found that it was driven by teenager Ka’Shawn Baldwin. Like many people who get pulled over by police officers, Ka’Shawn was nervous. The teenage boy knew that he shouldn’t be driving the car, expecting that the expired plates and broken window could get his car towed and warrant fines or even jail time.

As Officer Gemoules asked Ka’Shawn why he was driving the car when it was in such a bad state, he was shocked by the answer given by the young man. Ka’Shawn explained that the car was his only means of transportation to get to a job interview he had at FedEx. Officer Gemoules was moved with compassion for the teenage boy. Gemoules also serves as a school resource officer for his community and thought that Ka’Shawn was exactly like some of the kids he protects each day.

Officer Gemoules decided to help Ka’Shawn. Not only did he not ticket Ka’Shawn, but Officer Gemoules also drove him to his job interview at FedEx. The story of Officer Gemoules’ compassion quickly went viral, with thousands of social media users praising the police officer for helping Ka’Shawn. According to Littlethings, Officer Gemoules said that something came upon him and he knew that he had to help Ka’Shawn. In even better news, Ka’Shawn got the job at FedEx, which also made Officer Gemoules very happy.
