Police Officer Sees Retired K-9s Living In Pure Misery, So He Constructs A Wonderful Home For Them

Bai Yan, an officer with the Chinese police department, had dedicated his life to serving that organization and his community. Many of those were done with the dedicated help of K-9 dogs, canines who he came to respect, admire and care for. However, he was stunned, shocked and saddened to learn one day that, when their time is up, they're not sent into a nice retirement but either experience miserable conditions or are euthanized.

In fact, Bai had worked especially closely with these skilled and talented animals as he was a handler. He knew just how much they had sacrificed for the force, sacrifices not all that different from the ones endured by humans on the police force, and was reduced to tears when he learned the truth about what happens to them after their usefulness is over.

When human police officers retire, they get to enjoy a nice retirement. Maybe they go on vacation, or perhaps they simply relax at home after many grueling years on the force. For these animals, it was a completely different story. Many of them experienced neglect and even starvation while some were even put to death without even being considered for placement with a loving family. Bai could not believe it and felt such a betrayal from those responsible for these animals' well-being.

So, he took it upon himself to do something about it. He used $150,000, his entire savings, to build a canine retirement home for these amazing animals reports the South China Morning Post. After it was built, he took in several senior police dogs who had been placed on a kill list for being sick or depressed. Instead of being put to death, they got to experience the security of a stable home for the first time in their lives. One of them was even able to conquer cancer right as the veterinarians who had been treating it had lost hope.

Today, Bai has joined his canine friends in retirement and focuses much of his time tending to them, not only feeding them but also playing with them and keeping them active. After this story went viral, a number of organizations offered to provide him financial support, but he turned them all down. He wanted to take care of his canine family on his own.
