Late Thursday afternoon on January 17th, 2019, Prince Philip was involved in an accident near his Sandringham Estate.

The 97-year-old duke was driving his Range Rover when he collided with another car. His SUV overturned in the crash.

The Duke was fortunate enough to escape the accident unscathed. The driver and passengers of the other vehicle were uninjured, as well. Witnesses of the accident said they helped a safe, but shaken, Prince Philip out of the car. According to People, “He was conscious but very shocked and shaken, royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell said.”

As soon as the police arrived on the scene, they followed standard procedure and asked both Prince Philip and the driver of the other vehicle to take breathalyzer tests. Both parties involved passed the test, meaning neither party was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The Duke of Edinburgh did visit a doctor after the accident, but they merely confirmed that he had no injuries and appeared to be in good health.

Two passengers of the other vehicle involved were treated for minor injuries, but both have since been discharged from the hospital.

Even though he retired from his royal duties after turning 97 on June 10, 2018, Prince Philip has not yet reduced his level of activity. He's regularly spotted driving or even taking carriage rides through the beautiful parks in England. Hopefully, he'll slow things down a little in order to remain safe, sound and keep his title as the oldest British royal the world has ever seen.
