On January 8, 2019, six months after Braedence Jones’ initial disappearance, police found him confined to an attic crawlspace that was nailed shut, covered with carpet, and blocked by furniture.

His mother, Aubrey Ferguson, was found hiding with him. Her initial failure to return Braedence to his father’s custody resulted in his missing-and-endangered-child status, and the pair had been hidden by Woodrow Ziegler, Ferguson’s boyfriend, a convicted felon court-ordered to have no contact with her son.

They were found in Ziegler’s home after police received a tip from the US Marshalls Service Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Braedence went missing from Camden County, Missouri, in August of 2018, about 30 miles from where he was eventually located. Based on surveillance footage and pings from cell phones, police believe that Ferguson spent the last half-year moving her son around the area in order to evade capture.

A probable cause statement indicates that, at one time, Ferguson did inform the boy’s father, Ryan Jones, that she and Braedence were together and safe, but refused to verify his exact whereabouts.

Both Ziegler and Ferguson were arrested and taken into police custody and are currently being held on several charges, including one count of child abduction. Police returned Braedence to the custody of his father and father’s girlfriend, Breanne Dominguez, in good physical condition despite his 6-month-long trial.

“But since his abduction, the mother hasn’t allowed him to go to school and more than likely has not taken him to a doctor, if he needed one,” Camden County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Arlyne Page said. “We are hoping to help his father find counseling for him.”

Dominguez, for her part, took to Facebook to thank all those who’d lent their aid in the search for Braedence, including those on the “Help Bring Braedence Home” Facebook page.

“Thank you all for the prayers, shares, phone calls and etc,” she wrote. “We don’t know how to thank everyone enough. Our hearts are so full of joy.”

In another post, Dominguez addressed the police who investigated Braedence’s abduction, thanking them for their aid and search efforts, adding “you all will forever be in our hearts.”

If you'd still like to help Braedence and his family, it’s not too late! A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover costs accrued during Braedence’s disappearance and is currently accepting donations.
