Plus-Sized Woman Claps Back At Haters Who Say Relationship With Fit Husband ‘Doesn’t Add Up’

Societal beauty standards have affected how we see ourselves, how others see us, and how we determine our self-worth. According to ManiFold, society's perception of beauty is based upon numerous factors such as evolution, racism, and social media. But in recent years, beauty standards have become highly impressionable and limiting. These idolized beauty standards have devalued many people who don't fit into society's conception of beauty. For example, WooPlus, a dating app geared toward plus-sized women, surveyed 1,000 of its “curvy” users. The results revealed that 71% of its 1,000 users were fat-shamed on "regular" dating apps due to their size, which contradicts society's perception of beauty.

Plus-sized Tik-Tok star Alicia Mccarvell has gone viral for her mixed-weight relationship with her husband, Scott. Alicia's TikTok videos show the couple working out together, dancing, and adding a creative twist to popular TikTok trends. The body-positive content creator recorded a trending transition video in a now-viral Tik-Tok video, which has garnered over 43 million views. The video starts with her and Scott in their towels and then transitions to them in date night attire. After posting the video, Alicia was overwhelmed with negative comments regarding her weight and how Scott, a physically fit man, could be attracted to her. Some commenters accused Scott of being with Alicia for her money, suggested she was not overweight when they first met and went as far as to question Scott's sexuality.

In a response video, the Canadian influencer countered the negative commentary about her relationship, slammed society's beauty standards and the commenters who believed that because of her husband's physical appearance, he could not be in love with her.

In the response video, Alicia explained how the world/viewers perceived Scott as more valuable than her because of her weight.

"The world looks at us and immediately values Scott more than me," she shared. "Since we don't add up, people try to add things to my side of the equation to make it make sense by saying things like 'Oh, she must not have been fat when they met' or 'Oh, she's gotta be rich.' Or they try to decrease his side of the equation by saying things like 'He must be gay' or 'He fetishizes fat women.' We've been made to believe that somebody who is physically fit, like Scott, could never in a million years be in love with or compatible with a fat woman — and that's solely because the world has literally taught us that we have to value our worth on our bodies."

Alicia shared examples of women who have slid into her husband's DMs, attempting to lure him away from his wife — inciting Scott to leave Alicia for someone smaller and more fit. Although many women seek her husband's affection, Alicia explained that she is not jealous of that.

"When people typically slide into his DMs, they're leading with their body first," she explained. "And on the scale of what my husband values, how well my body fits into the beauty standards is not on the top of his list. He values my humor, and my commitment, and my love, and my caring heart. None of these things that he values about me change if my body changes."

As Alicia mentioned, physical appearance does not add or decrease the value of anybody's self-worth. She ended her video by sharing how it's our responsibility to unlearn "society's trash beauty standards."

Even though Alicia received several negative comments in the post, she began receiving kinder words in her social media comments section following her authentic videos. The social media influencer uploaded a TikTok about all the rumors circulating her relationship, such as her boyfriend will most likely cheat on her due to her size or that she must be his “sugar mama” for him to want to be with her, or that he wasn’t even into women at all.

Text over the end of the video read: “Worry about your own relationship. K. Thanks.”

Several users went to the comment section to share some positive feedback for Alicia for standing up for herself. Even though some people tried to tear her down, the comment section seemed to be more on the positive side, following the influencer’s assertiveness.

One person commented, “I find it hilarious the comments you get. You’re probably one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen and I’ve never once thought about your size.” Another added, “You tell them!!!!”

Another person shared that Alicia’s videos were inspiring and were even helping them feel better about themselves. “This is really hard to say but your channel has made me feel so empowered and willing and beautiful,” the user wrote.

Alicia also began receiving kinder comments on her response video to her viral video. While Alicia had explained that her video seemed to go viral for all the wrong reasons, one person commented, “This should go viral for all the right reasons.”

Another person said, “Say it again! Beautiful couple.”
