At some point, we all see homeless people standing alongside the roads, sleeping under bridges, and walking the streets. While it’s sad, few of us do anything about it or truly try to make a difference.

However, Tom Wilhelmi and his wife, Angie, and are proving that they are an exception to that rule.

Tom knows that it’s like to be homeless.

At one point, he found himself lost in the streets of Chicago without a place to live as he tried to overcome his problems with drugs and gambling. While Tom managed to pull himself up and move forward with his life, he has never let himself forget where he came from or the struggles that he faced.

In recovery, Tom and his wife, Angie, moved to Greenwood, Indiana where they chose to start their own pizza shop. Not only was the pizza shop a way to provide the community with a delicious meal, but Tom and Angie decided to make it an opportunity to reach out to those who had experienced homelessness.

Agape Pizza became a popular pizza parlor that not only provided delicious meals, but also promised to hire only people who had been formerly homeless and were still in transitional housing.

As Agape Pizza abounds, the owners have stuck to their plan – making sure that it’s a restaurant that helps the community and those who are struggling to get back on their feet.

Once-homeless employees explained to FOX news that the job helps them to 'feel human again', while giving them the boost they need to continue forward in life.

“Instead of always being turned down for jobs, here, you’ve got the job. Don’t worry about it,” Angie told FOX.

While this alone is awesome, Tom and Angie take things a step farther – to best help their employees, they devote all their tips to programs that assist others.

Tom is living proof that people can overcome their hardships and addictions, and then help to give back to the community.
