Everyone has a favorite food, and if you think back, it'll remind you of some great memories and times with both family and friends.

Taste is linked to sensations of nostalgia for many people. You can even recollect happy memories by simply smelling your favorite foods.

Believe it or not, food can actually provide the same thing, especially the aroma of your favorite meal freshly cooked.

Don't believe it?

Ask Rich and Julie Morgan. They were married young in the city of Battle Creek, Michigan, even though they now live in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Even though it was over two decades ago, that was a time when a lot of people were tight on money.

Back then, Rich would celebrate with Julie every payday by ordering their favorite pizza from a small pizzeria, Steve's Pizza, in Battle Creek. The savory mushrooms and pepperoni are a happy memory from their past together, from when they use to sit down and eat spending quality time together.

Over the years, the Morgan's moved several times, but even in their latest home in Indianapolis, they never found a pizza that could hit the spot quite like Steve's.

For Julie's birthday, they decided to visit home, and a stop at Steve's Pizza was cemented on their itinerary. They knew that their "gold standard" carry-out order would be an enjoyment they couldn't miss.

However, before they were able to make their trip home, Rich was admitted into the ICU, and he learned that he was no longer winning against his diagnosis of cancer. Due to the circumstances, they had to regrettably cancel their trip.

After his stay in the ICU, Rich had to be placed in hospice care. Surrounded by the people he loved, they reminisced about the good times, but Julie's father had a plan and made a secret phone call directly to Steve's Pizza.

David Dalke, Julie's dad was concerned, and in hopes of raising their spirits in a time of desperation, he hoped that the pizziareia would agree to send them a supportive text or card to help lift their spirits. When making the call, Dalke spoke with a young 18-year-old employee by the name of Dalton Shaffer.

After hearing the request, Dalton asked, "Well, what kind of pizza do they like?" Dalke was confused.

So, he asked if the boy  knew where he was calling from. Currently, he was at the Morgna's home, which was roughly 225 miles away from Steve's Pizza and Battle Creek. Steve's Pizza did not offer delivery, normally, but Dalton Shaffer wasn't going to let that stop him.

According to MLive Media Group, Dalton said that Mr. Morgan's situation made him feel "really sad". Closing up the shop, Dalton decided that they deserved to relive one of their most cherished memories, despite the distance.

Quickly after, Dalton made two special 16-inch pepperoni-and-mushroom pizzas for the couple and their loved ones. Hopping into his Honda Accord, he started a pizza pilgrimage that would take him across state lines.

Arriving in Indianapolis at 2:30 a.m., Dalton delivered the pizza, and according to Julie, he refused to take any money from her for a hotel.

Instead, he wished them well and dropped off the pizzas. Then, he headed home, since he had a shift scheduled at Steve's Pizza the next day.

Shaffer was extremely humble as the family members ran outside to hug and thank him before he left. He said that they couldn't believe he had done that for them and were very grateful.

Julie posted a very grateful Facebook post that received thousands of shares and likes within 24-hours of being posted. In her post, she thanked Dalton from the bottom of her heart and described what his sacrifice meant to her and the family.

She also stated that Steve's Pizza was just as mouthwatering as they had remembered it to be.

Dalke then added to the post that he felt we need more people in the world like this and that more people should take a lesson from young Shaffer.

Have you ever experienced anything like this or believe more people should be like young Shaffer? Let us know in the comments, and keep Rich's family in your thoughts and prayers!
