The nine-year-old freckled girl with red pigtails and superhuman strength has not left the imagination of young people since Astrid Lindgren published her first book in the 40s. In fact, the film comes at a perfect time as Longstocking celebrates her 75th birthday in 2020.

The film project will be taken on by David Heyman who was the producer behind "Paddington," another film adaptation of a beloved children's book, in collaboration with the Astrid Lindgren Company and Studiocanal.

"Pippi has endured and inspired families everywhere through her life force, strength of character and her irrepressible joie de vivre," Heyman stated in a press release. "Astrid Lindgren’s books have been translated around the globe for many years – a testament to her vision which we are determined to honour with a new film."

EW reports that there have been 65 million copies sold of original beloved books worldwide, translated into 77 languages after first originating in Sweden.

The press announcement has not made it clear if there is anybody attached to the film yet nor is there a production or premiere date. Fans will just have to wait and see how the casting process goes and look out for the movie some time in the future.
