Parenting is a very challenging job that requires a lot of attention and constant guidance. However, that was only the start of various phases of addiction and the struggle for sobriety. The actress also tried to take her life within a year after her first rehab and was taken back to mental health care. When she was emancipated from her parents at age 14, fortunately, David Crosby and his wife took her in. In the Jan. 2022 episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show," while talking to Bobby Berk, the actress got candid about her fears of dating while caring for her daughters after her divorce. Barrymore tied the knot with Will Kopelman in 2012, and the duo welcomed their first child, Olive, that same year. Their second child, Frankie, was born in 2014.

The duo eventually got divorced in 2016, and Barrymore remained single until four years after the divorce. After the divorce, People revealed that the actress's mental health suffered a challenge. In a previous segment, the actress shared with Machine Gun Kelly, "I went through a really painful divorce and I wasn't doing very well." She added that her kids were her biggest motivation to fight to achieve the new life she had.

The "Grey Gardens" actress explained to Berk that she was considering trying out the dating world again. However, she had some fears about dating as a mother, which got to her feelings and made her tear up. She explained:

"I don't know how to date with kids…I'm not there yet. I have two young girls and I'm like …I don't want to bring people home. I think it would take me a very long time to meet someone and get to know them before I could even ever introduce them to my daughters,"

One of the reasons Barrymore was interested in dating was because Kopelman got remarried and gave her children an "extraordinary stepmom." The actress, being very protective of her daughters, did not want to tell anyone of her daughters until she had gotten to know them very well.
