Pilot Calls Out Elderly Woman On Plane Intercom, Making Her Cry As He Leaves Cockpit To Come To Her Seat

You never know what to expect when you get on an airplane. People have shared all kinds of horror stories over the years about some of the wildest antics they’ve seen go down while high up in the sky while aboard their flight. From seeing people do yoga in their seats to seeing others get kicked off a plane for screaming at the flight attendants, there is no shortage of outlandish stories people have shared about flights they’ve been on.

An elderly woman was on a United Airlines flight back in Jan. 2020 when she was called out by the pilot. He had asked a question over the loudspeaker, and the elderly woman was the only one who raised her hand in answer. After realizing that the pilot was speaking directly to her, the woman was left completely taken aback. She only had a few seconds to collect herself before she was face to face with the pilot as he quickly made his way out of the cockpit and directly toward her seat. It turned out that the pilot was actually her son!

The woman had been sitting with her daughter, Michelle A, during the flight when the announcement took place. Fortunately, Michelle was able to capture the moment her mother was called out on camera, and even caught the moment she met the pilot/her son. It left the older woman in tears as she couldn’t believe that something like this was really happening right in front of her eyes. The Moment That Shocked The Entire Flight

During a flight in Jan. 2020, Michelle captured a once-in-a-lifetime moment that her mother experienced and uploaded the video to her YouTube account. The two had both been seated on a United Airlines flight when the pilot came over the loudspeaker to make an announcement, calling out the elderly woman. He asked, “If you were a Capital Airlines stewardess, would you mind raising your hand?” In the caption of her video, Michelle wrote: “My mom was a Capital Airlines (merged with United Airlines) flight attendant 60 years ago. She left the airlines to raise 3 children.”

Since Michelle’s mom fit the description the pilot had mentioned, she skeptically raised her hand. The pilot then called her “the greatest mom ever,” and the woman was immediately overcome with emotions. Shortly after, the pilot came out from the cockpit and promptly made his way over to her seat. The elderly woman was in shock as she saw her son dressed in his uniform, showing that he was the United Captain on the flight she was on. 

In the video’s description, Michelle explained that her brother is the oldest sibling in the family and he decided to follow in his mother’s footsteps by working for an airline. Both Michelle and her brother had teamed up to surprise their mother with her very first flight with the son as their flight’s pilot. Working for an airline really does run in the family — Michelle’s father had also been a pilot. Michelle exclaimed, “It was a great moment for our family!”

The moment was not only emotional for the family trio but the entire plane was invested in their story, with people cheering them on and some even recording the special moment themselves. Since it was uploaded, people online have also expressed how much the video means to them too. In fact, it's been viewed over 23.7 million times on YouTube! Considering it's only been online since January of last year, that's an incredible feat. 

People in the comments were just as supportive as those who were actually on the plane, with many commenting stories about their own moms. One user who is also a pilot stated that he'd made the exact same gesture for his mother, writing:

"I'm a pilot. I've done this for my mom too. Awesome feeling to see the joy in your mom's eyes."

Meanwhile, another got emotional explaining it made her cry, before writing a special note for her mother who has passed:

"Made me cry. So glad this man appreciates his mom and let her know in such a beautiful way. (Miss you, Mom, more than you can know. 1934 - 1998.)"

Another person made reference to how safe the flight would be, stating:

"That’s how you know a flight is gonna be safe, when the pilots mom is onboard."

People were simply overjoyed by how much love was shown in this video and it got everybody talking about their mothers too. If there's one takeaway from this video, it's to call up your mom and show her how much she means to you.
