In June 2018, a commercial truck was sending a group of piglets to the butcher for meat, but one pig ended up with an unplanned outcome. One pig fell out of the truck on the highway junction between interstates 44 and 270 in St. Louis, Missouri, and ended up being rescued by someone who eventually gave him up to live a much different life than expected on Randy's Rescue Ranch in Old Fallon, Ilinois.

Once the three-week-old piglet was seen on the highway on June 29th, 2018, a motorist stopped and delivered the pig to Randy's Rescue Ranch in Old Fallon, Ilinois. The staff at the rescue immediately offered help and cared for the pig, who had suffered a broken leg from the truck fall.

The ranch founder, Randy Grim, 56, said that the tattoo on the pig's—later to be named Pickles—ear as a tag that marked her to be raised for meat production.

Randy told The Daily Mail that at first, he perceived Pickles initially as 'kind of mean,' but that she later warmed up to him and his dogs.

Randy said:

"she's treated like a queen."

Randy's ranch has a total of 20 acres of space and has 15 other farm animal residents.

Randy also stated that Pickles the pig even shares her room with a Longhorn calf that was rescued just a few months prior to Pickle's rescue.

Randy said:

"She's changed my life."
