Weddings are an incredible moment where two people profess their love for one another in front of their closest friends and family members. It’s a special moment that usually only happens once in a person’s lifetime, and many people hope to keep the memories with them for the rest of their lives. One of the most efficient ways to do this is by hiring a professional photographer or videographer to capture every amazing moment on such a special day.
Kaman and Ramandeep Rai of British Columbia, Canada, hired a wedding photographer to capture every moment possible of their beautiful wedding that took place in June 2015. They hired Aman Bal, the photographer, and his company Elite Images to provide both photography and videography services that cost them a total of $8,500. It was a hefty fee, but the contract stated that the couple would be receiving plenty of amazing services and goodies for both the newlyweds and their wedding guests.
A total of six years went by, and the Rais still hadn’t received any of the products they had contracted Bal and his company to create. The photographer was known for doing outstanding work for several huge events, but he failed to follow through with his end of the contract with the Rais. Finally, in August 2021, the couple were compensated for all of the heartache they had been put through from not receiving their wedding photos or videos, and Bal was fined more than $22,000 for failing to live up to his end of the contract.

In August 2021, Judge Valliammai Chettiar found that Bal had breached his contract with the Rai couple six years after their June 2015 wedding, according to CBC. Chettiar also found the wedding photographer’s testimony to be extremely confusing and troubling. “In my view, none of Mr. Bal’s explanations is tenable,” Chettiar said. “They can only be characterized as lame excuse.”
Bal and Elite Images were hired to supply photo albums, thank you cards, digital guest books, and more, with the Rais paying him $8,5000 for everything. Even though he had worked as a professional photographer for 15 to 20 years and provided services for big events, he failed to live up to his end of the contract with Kaman and Ramandeep. On top of this, Bal also had irreplaceable childhood photos that Kaman and Ramandeep had given him.
Bal ignored many of the couple’s inquiries and continued to tell them that their products would be ready soon, but six years later, the couple still had not gotten anything they paid for. CBC reported that the contract stated Bal was supposed to supply the products within one year of the wedding.
On the first day of trial, Bal offered to return the couple’s photos and deliver what was in the contract, but they declined, according to CBC. At least five other legal actions have been brought against the photographer since 2011.
Chettiar found that on top of breaching his contract, Bal had a “slippery testimony” and a “pattern of deceitful behavior.” Bal was ordered to pay $7,000 to replace the items he didn’t deliver, $5,000 for punitive damages, $10,000 for mental distress to Kaman and Ramandeep, and $236 for court fees, totaling $22,236.
