Photographer Catches Big Bear Quietly Sitting Behind Two Fishermen

As a professional wildlife photographer, Robert Hawthorn is used to seeing some amazing sights while out in the great outdoors. However, nothing could have prepared him for the image of a huge grizzly bear sneaking up on a pair of fishermen.

The men were fishing in a remote creek in the Katmai National Park in Alaska. When Robert noticed the bear in the shadows, he snapped the picture out of habit. He told People magazine:

“Knowing from experience there that it isn’t a threat in how it was playing out, I had time to take a photo before letting this guy know that he had a bear behind him. And believe it or not, his reaction was simply [that he] looked over his shoulder and continued fishing.”

Robert has been a wildlife photographer since 2015 and happened to be actually guiding a tour for budding photographers when he spotted the hidden bear. He says that a bear approaching humans looking for food is more common than you might think.

The bears do not mean to harm the people. Instead, they are simply looking for fish to eat. As the men continued to fish, the bear sat in the bushes nearby waiting for a salmon to come by for the next meal

Although Robert is only 21, he has already amassed a vast collection of impressive wildlife photos. Included in his portfolio are photos of bear, bison, eagles, mountain lions, and more.

He posted the photo on his Instagram and wrote underneath it, "This very well may be my favorite photo from the summer. These two fishermen were oblivious to say the least. There is no Photoshop here, just what makes Alaska so wild!"
