Pharmacist Delivers Medicine To Snowed-In Customers Using Snowmobile

Feb 18, 2019 by apost team

A deep freeze has been experienced over the Midwest just recently. It's unlike anything most people have ever witnessed or heard about in their time on earth. Most everyone took cover and stayed indoors as the cold weather took over.

Some areas reached temperatures that were colder than anywhere else on the planet. This caused whole communities to stand still.

These type of situations cause every day living to become extremely difficult or even impossible for some. Some had medicines they depended on and weren't able to get them filled. This was a serious problem. Their health could diminish rapidly without their needed medications.

This is what one pharmacist in Michigan had on her mind. She simply couldn't sit there and let people be in need when she knew that she could help. Her idea was pretty simple but quite effective.

She had her own snowmobile so she decided to travel to those in need of their medications. Lake Odessa Pharmacy isn't a stranger to delivering medicines but the snow and frigid temperatures caused quite an issue for the normal delivery task.

A couple of elderly residents, Margaret and Wayne Mausbach, were in the same type of predicament as many others. Wayne feared that missing a dose of his medication would be very dangerous for him. But, their car wasn't able to be driven due to the weather conditions.

They were snowed in and running out of necessary medication. They feared the worst.

Andrea Cusack, the pharmacist, knew exactly how they felt and that Wayne's medications were needed. She knew that he didn't need to skip the medicines he was on for his diabetes or his blood pressure as it could cause quite and issue. This delivery was going to happen.

She asked if their driveway was plowed. It wasn't. She knew that a snowmobile would be needed and they agreed with her.

Andrea along with her 15-year-old layered up, jumped on the snowmobile and headed out on a journey.

They rode tandem on the snowmobile across unbelievable landscapes frozen in time. They knew what their mission was and they weren't stopping till the task at hand was completed.

Andrea's husband captured a photo of the two as they were heading out. He soon shared it on Facebook referencing the pharmacy and their new addition to the delivery service.

Andrea felt this wasn't anything out of the ordinary. She feels it's just a part of her job. She really cares for her customers and the community and can't stand to see anyone in need.
