People Put Up Their Christmas Lights In March As A Show Of Hope

We are currently living through a very uncertain period. Some may even call these dark times. But in dark times it is always important to have light. Residents around the world are showing their solidarity to each other by putting up their Christmas lights to spread some joy to counter the global spread of COVID-19.

The World Health Organization has been regularly updating their figures on COVID-19, a type of coronavirus, and the latest statistics show there are close to 200,000 cases and over 7,000 deaths worldwide. It is impossible to get away from the bad, and often sad news that hits us from all angles – TV, internet, newspapers and social media. In a world that is facing such a challenge, it is important that people's morale stays strong and positive.

Lots of people are showing that the human spirit can never truly be dampened. Even in a crisis, communities are doing what they can to show they are supporting each other from afar. According to the Daily Mail, those in self-isolation are putting their twinkling Christmas lights up in March as a sign of hope that we can beat this deadly virus.

A Twitter user named Nic posted: "Last night we switched our Christmas lights back on. I intend to #sharesomelight every evening until we are out of this darkness (or until my husband shouts at me) to say thank you to everyone who’s keeping the country going."

Another user April tweeted: "World getting you down? We are so lazy that we never took down our Christmas lights. So, we turned them back on!" This will be a welcome sight for all those who can look out of their windows while they are stuck at home.

Christmas is known for being a time for sharing our love with our families and friends, and in moments when this isn't physically possible, the lights serve as a reminder that we are sharing our love and hope even if we aren't in close proximity, and even if it isn't Christmas.
