People Feel Torn Over Video Of King's Guard Shouting At Young Girl And Making Her Cry

A visit to the royal residences has become a must for tourists who wish to see iconic landmarks often only seen in photos. For some, catching a glimpse of the King's Guard (also called the Queen’s Guard when the reigning monarch was still Queen Elizabeth II) should be included in the itinerary. But, of course, some try to see or take photos with them — no matter what it takes.

Time and again, the King’s Guard of the British Army have shown they are not to be messed with. Yet, time and again, the public, particularly tourists, push their luck — with embarrassing consequences.

In July 2022, one woman got the shock of her life when she overstepped the bounds for a “perfect” picture with a member of the contingent, also known as the Life Guards. Members of this mounted guard are part of the Household Cavalry.

A TikTok video posted by @phigs_ during a trip to London showed whom he described as his stepmother attempting to take a photograph with a member of the Horse Guards regiment on horseback. She was seen moving as close as she could to the horse’s head. But when the animal turned its head, she was forced to move back. Undeterred, the woman tried again, much to her detriment.

The woman tried to get the horse to stay still by holding on to its reins. At this point, the guard spotted her transgression and, without hesitation, shouted at the woman at full volume: “Stand back from the Queen's Life Guard; don't touch the reins!”

In another incident in July 2018 at Windsor Castle, a woman was seen jumping over a dividing rope as a Guardsman was marching by for a photograph.

She appeared unaware that she was directly in the path of a marching guard, who came up behind her and shoved her forward.

Back in 2021, a clip of two members of the Royal Guard knocking over a boy while marching at the Tower of London went viral. One of the guards shouted, “Make way!” before charging into the child, who fell onto his back.

Less than a month following the queen’s death in September 2022, another TikTok video went viral. This time around, it involved a little girl who ran away after a King’s Guard screamed at her telling her to “stand clear!” while she stood in his way. But to be fair to the little girl, it seemed as if she wasn’t aware of what was happening around her.

Then again, the video has drawn mixed reactions from users, with most of them saying he was simply doing his job. Others blamed the parents, with one user named ash saying, “Some parents are so clueless it’s unbelievable.” There were also those who pointed out that King’s Guards aren’t a public attraction and that they are there to carry out their duties.

Another user named N said he doesn’t understand how tourists go to London and think it’s Disneyland. Alex Lucy Oliver seconded N’s thoughts, saying: “Real soldier. Not Disney. Meanwhile, Awais Tariq referenced a hit HBO series, saying: “They still think it’s Game of Thrones.”

While there were several harsh words thrown at the girl, there were also those who felt for her and expressed their sympathies. One Peter Cahill said it was “not necessary.” Yara Osman, on the other hand, said the act was “mean and uncalled for.”
