People Everywhere Are Knitting, Crocheting And Sewing For Animals Hurt In Australian Wildfires

As wildfires continue to rage across Australia, volunteers and rescue centers race to save as much wildlife as possible. Entire populations of animals are being wiped out by the devastation and the ones that survive the fires are struggling. Wildlife in rescue centers have been injured and face the loss of habitat, so volunteers have been creating pouches, mittens and more to help these creatures survive.
Rescue centers are able to provide a safe space for hurt animals to recover, as well as give them a home and food until they can return to the wild. Most of what the animals need to survive can be supplied or purchased by these centers and volunteers, but the incredible number of animals that need help has been overwhelming.
To help, volunteers everywhere have been working to create much needed items from scratch. Everything from koala mittens, to joey pouches to bat and bird nets are being made by caring individuals. All of these items need to be made by hand, using crafting skills such as crocheting or knitting as seen here on the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild Facebook pages.

Koalas that have been unable to escape the wildfires fast enough are being cared for in special burn units and need soft cloth to protect their hands and feet.
Kangaroos that have lost their mothers are in need of safe and snugly pouches to sleep and rest in. For this reason, joey pouches that can serve as surrogate pouches are a need that can be created fairly quickly for someone that is good at knitting or sewing.
As the wildfire and need grew, volunteers in Australia began to share this information with people asking how they could help.
Now, good people all over the globe are helping in the creation of these items so that rescuers and volunteers on the ground in Australia can continue to work to save and care for the animals that need them.
What a fun way of helping out these beautiful creatures that are struggling. If you know anyone who likes knitting, sewing or crocheting, maybe they can help too.
