People Criticize Neurologist Mother As Being ‘Too Much’ For Not Allowing Her Kids To Do Four Activities

It’s natural for parents to impose rules on their children – including what they are allowed and shouldn’t do. After all, parents only want what’s best for their kids. So, it’s really up to them to set their own rules. Unless those rules are affecting the kids in a negative way, then no one should overstep in their parenting styles. But just how many rules should parents have for their kids, and when exactly should they draw the line? One parent might have just given her kids “too many” rules – and it’s not sitting well with other people.
Dr. Puja Aggarwal, an Orlando-based neurologist who goes by @zenfulbrain on TikTok, shared four activities she wouldn’t let her kids do in December 2022. For someone who specializes in epilepsy and has led clinical trials related to neurogenerative diseases, Aggarwal sure knows what she’s talking about. Then again, some people find what's on her list a bit too much.
Among the points on her list are playing American football, riding ATVs (all-terrain vehicles), jumping on outdoor trampolines and shooting a gun.
Topping Aggarwal’s list is American football which she said has high rates of concussion. She particularly cited a possible effect of repetitive concussion from football, particularly chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease associated with aggression, mood swings and poor impulse control.
Being a doctor herself, she cited a journal published in the American Academy of Pediatrics back in 2019, which studied all types of injuries reported for 20 high school sports from 2013 to 2018.
Aggarwal isn’t taking the effects of concussions lightly. Aggarwal argued that the points included on her list could kill brain cells which can have long-term effects on humans.
Aggarwal said these activities could “straight up kill you.”

“This can cause a transient change in your mental status, it can cause headaches, it can cause people to actually pass out and lose consciousness,” she explained.
Aggarwal noted that she had seen the effects of concussions herself, saying they could have multiple risks.
“I have seen people who have experienced concussions from head injuries from sports and this being high schoolers or people in college and they can have long-lasting headaches, dizziness. It’s called post-concussion syndrome,” she said.
“So, it’s not just that one time that they had the concussion that there is a risk. And again, if you keep playing football, there are multiple risks, multiple times that you could (have) concussions and that, over time, can cause damage to the brain or brain injury,” she added.
As for the other three “no-nos,” Aggarwal explained each one of them briefly. For ATVs, Aggarwal said it simply is a “hard no.” For trampolines, Aggarwal said they could make kids fall off and hit the ground. Lastly, for guns, Aggarwal said she believes there’s simply no need for them.
Aggarwal received mixed reactions from people on TikTok in the comments section of the video where she tried to explain her side. While there were those who agreed with her, many of them disagreed and said they were simply too much.
“I think you should let your kids live and enjoy life you can get injuries doing anything in life this is too much,” one user said.
“So you won't let your kids be kids?” another user remarked.
“No offense but u gotta stop living like this. my mom was exactly like this and (not gonna lie) I despised her for it. They gotta learn on their own one day,” one person stated.
