People Are Now Claiming That Santa Should Be Genderless Or Female

When you think about Santa Claus, the image of an older man with a white beard and a red suit understandably comes to mind. He lives in the North Pole, rides in a sleigh with eight reindeer and carries a sack of toys slung over his back.

More than that, he is married to Mrs. Claus, who is an equally jolly, grandmotherly figure.

However, what if Santa Claus was actually a woman?

In the small town of Newton Aycliffe, two women stood up to volunteer for the role of Santa Claus in the local holiday festival recently. This simple event created a furor that spread around the globe.

When a local government official reminded residents that Santa Claus is also named Father Christmas and that the role should only be filled by men, some people began to question why this is the case.

While some felt strongly that the image of Santa as a man is outdated, others held firmly to the traditional image of Santa Clause. For example, even TV personality Piers Morgan brought the subject up to his audience and announced that of course Father Christmas should be played by a male.

However, many people have stated that it is now time to modernize the role of Santa Claus so that the character is gender-neutral. In a survey, as many as 27 percent of people polled believe that Santa should be gender-neutral.

While many people feel strongly about Santa being played by a male and others believe that the role should be gender-neutral, others believe that the entire argument is ridiculous. They state that Santa Claus is not even real, so the topic should not receive so much media attention.
