Legendary Beatles band member John Lennon is well known for his songwriting abilities. It is hard to imagine what he would have given us had he lived a bit longer on this earth. Unfortunately, he was struck down in his prime at the young and tender age of 40 by a crazed gunman in front of his New York City apartment, leaving those of us behind speculating the greatness that he would have risen to.

His song Imagine was made to spread hope for a better world, where there is peace and acceptance of all. Now, Pentatonix have covered John Lennon's iconic song and added their own spin on it, spreading a message of love and unity for all.

Imagine, a song made even more famous by the event of Lennon's untimely death, paints a utopian picture of life lived in love, tolerance, and peace. Its rise in popularity was perfectly timed, as the world was about to enter one of the most turbulent periods in history, and its timeless words ring true even today as we struggle with unprecedented challenges, isolation, and sadness at our human condition.

Lennon was known as a passionate peace activist, and even to his dying day, he lived and preached the virtues of love, acceptance, and peace, truly believing that it was possible to live in harmony with his fellow man and in unity with nature. It would do us well now to embrace some of the concepts that he wrote of and breathed life into with his iconic song.

With Imagine hitting number three on the Billboard charts, appearing numerous times on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of all Time list, and making its annual contribution to New Year's eve when the ball is dropped in New York City, it can seem that all the climactic moments for this song have passed. Leave it to beloved a capella group, Pentatonix, to bring it all back with some fresh flavor, beautiful sound, and unique perspective that make it even more memorable and poignant this time around.

The band members of Pentatonix have a diverse and varied history themselves; they thought it especially fitting to bring the concept and meaning of Lennon's song back with a bit of a reveal into each of their personal lives. During their most memorable performance and video, they hold up signs that display words such as "Jewish, American, Black, Christian, LGBTQ+, Man, Woman, and Latina" proudly, declaring who they are individually as well as wrapping everything into a common theme of "HUMAN" when their signs are compiled for a dramatic statement of unity and love at the end of the performance.

Their rich harmonies, soulful, impeccable singing, and passion to delivering the message once more as Lennon would have wanted it, leaves us hungry for more. What do we want more of, though? Musical excellence? A heartwarming message? Hope for the future? Watch their divine performance and decide what it means for you and those you hold near and dear to you, and let it conjure up a sense of greater purpose and unity for the common good, which is what we could all use a bit more of right now. Enjoy!
