Covering an iconic and extremely well-known song is no easy feat, but it’s something that a cappella group Pentatonix has successfully done time and time again. Blending their beautifully different voices together while creating the sounds of various instruments just from using different vocal techniques, the group has continued to astonish people from all over the world with their impressive and show-stopping performances of both classic and modern-day songs.

From Arlington, Texas, this a cappella group consists of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee. The group released their debut album in 2012 and quickly followed it up with their very first Christmas album. Since then, Pentatonix has become one of the most established groups in pop music, putting their own spin on previously recorded tracks as well as creating some of their own original songs.

They have also made a huge impact on the way people listen to holiday music as they have released many Christmas albums since the start of their career, including “That’s Christmas to Me,” “A Pentatonix Christmas” and “We Need a Little Christmas.” They also released a holiday compilation album titled “The Best of Pentatonix Christmas.”

In December 2020, Pentatonix appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” to give a special live a cappella performance of “Amazing Grace.” Blending their melodic and gorgeous voices together, the group put on a mesmerizing rendition of the beautiful song and amazed host Kelly Clarkson and her show’s audience. Since winning the third season of NBC’sThe Sing-Off” in 2011, the a cappella group Pentatonix has gone on to officially make their mark on the music industry, tackling a variety of genres and songs along the way. While many people are used to listening to music with heartfelt lyrics, strong vocals and a great instrumental background, Pentatonix began to change up the game by becoming mainstream artists known for their a cappella arrangements.

According to the group’s bio on their official website, the band decided to separate from their record label shortly after winning “The Sing-Off” and instead marketed themselves through a highly successful YouTube channel. The channel currently has 19.3 million subscribers with each video raking in millions of views.

Pentatonix have since gone on to sell more than 10 million albums worldwide, including two No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart, according to the group’s website. They have also gone on to receive plenty of praise and accolades from their peers and the music industry, receiving a nomination for a Daytime Emmy and winning three Grammy Awards.

While Pentatonix has definitely left its mark on the pop industry, it’s clear that its specialty lies within holiday music. Releasing a handful of full-length albums and extended plays throughout their career, the group has covered a variety of holiday songs, each collection more heartwarming than the last. In October 2021, Pentatonix released their latest holiday album, titled “Evergreen,” including songs such as “We Wish You A Merry Christmas and “Little Saint Nick.”

What’s even more impressive than their catalogue and renowned recognition is the way they present themselves on a stage. Using just their voices to sing beautiful songs and create the sounds of various instruments, Hoying, Grassi, Maldonado, Olusola and Sallee are able to capture the attention of any audience.

Working well with others seems to be incredibly easy for the group as they not only harmonize and compliment each other, but they have worked with a handful of other famous artists, including Lindsey Stirling, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson. They’ve also released a handful of collaborations, working with the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Tori Kelly and even Clarkson.

Making a virtual appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in December 2020, Pentatonix proved yet again just how remarkably talented they are by performing a live a cappella rendition of “Amazing Grace.” With a stark white background and a decorated Christmas tree with surrounding presents behind them, the singers of Pentatonix performed their take of the beloved song, as they all poured their heart and soul into their version of “Amazing Grace.”

With each word and note change, the talented group showed off more and more of their vocal abilities, incorporating high notes, beat-boxing and more vocal techniques along the way. They had time to show off their individual talents while still finding a way to mesh brilliantly together. The performance was so simple as everyone stood behind microphone stands, but still managed to entrance anyone who watched. It’s safe to say that this is a performance that will go down in history as one of the best from Pentatonix.
