Rod Stewart’s wife and partner of 20 years Penny Lancaster opened up about his battle with prostate cancer. The rockstar admitted this year after a performance that he was diagnosed with the disease three years ago.

Lancaster appeared on the talk-show “The Loose” to discuss Stewart’s silent battle with prostate cancer. She began by talking about how the celebrity found out about his diagnosis. “Rod had a few symptoms. It started moving quite quickly, the results, the numbers. They said we best do a rectal exam. It's the only way. And they did find a lump. Then it was like, 'okay we can't ignore this.’”

However, as Lancaster continued to recall she began to tear up while saying, “We got the shock news it was cancer. We looked at the different ways of dealing with it. It was [quite aggressive]. It came on really quickly.”

Luckily, the doctors caught the disease in its early stages and Stewart made a full recovery. The English rockstar attended a charity event for prostate cancer where he revealed he had been silently fighting it since February 2016 during a routine check-up.

“No one knows this, but I thought this was about time I told everybody,” he said as cited by The Independent. “I’m in the clear now, simply because I caught it early. I have so many tests.”

The musician went into remission in July, however, he urged others at the event to go get checked.

“Guys, you’ve got to really go to the doctor. Finger up the bum, no harm done,” the rockstar cheekily said to the audience.
