Paul Rudd is reportedly joining the cast of the next film in the spooky and hilarious “Ghostbusters” series, “Ghostbusters 2020,” coming to theaters next summer.

According to an exclusive story in Variety, Rudd is in final negotiations with Sony to seal the deal and have him appear as a teacher, possibly opposite Carie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace. Coon is in negotiations to play a single mother and Wolfhard and Grace, her children.

The original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman’s son Jason Reitman will direct. “I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance,” he said to Variety, "I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.”

The story will focus around Coon and her children and Sigourney Weaver will come back as Dana Barrett, sources have revealed to Variety. More insider information is that the film is code-named “Rust City.” However, Sony has not confirmed any plot details other than a teaser trailer released in January. The spooky trailer focuses on a creepy garage that has a reveal at the end that fans will surely love.

Paul Rudd, the “Ant-Man” himself is clearly no stranger to action movies, having a great deal of experience as the shrinking superhero in several Marvel films including the recent “Avengers: Endgame.” He is also a comedy genius as evidenced by his “Friends” role as Phoebe’s husband and iconic turn in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.” If “Ghostbusters 2020” is as funny and action-packed as the other films in the franchise, it will no doubt be an ideal match for him.
