One of the biggest Hollywood celebrities of the 1980s was Patrick Swayze, with blockbuster hits such as "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost." His fans have probably watched some of his movies countless times. He was one of cinema's greatest leading men and action heroes, and a star that many young women swooned over.

His fans also enjoyed watching Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi dance, but this celebrity, who was named the "sexiest man alive," by People in 1991, had a rough time growing up. A recent documentary on REELZChannel entitled "The Price of Fame," revealed a lot about his life. The film showed some of the hardships that Patrick endured before he became famous.

When Patrick was young, he was a terrific dancer, which was due to years of practice and dedication to the art. His male peers were aware that he spent a lot of time dancing, and this made him a target for bullying.

His mother had a dance studio, and he spent many hours there learning ballet techniques. Patrick was also a talented singer, and this was also seen as a reason to pick on him. Some traditionally-minded people did not see these pursuits as something that men should do.

Many times, especially when Patrick carried his ballet shoes, he became a target for physical and verbal abuse. He sometimes came home from school bearing marks on his body from being beaten, but in the documentary he revealed that he never spoke about the bullying, reports USA Today.

Patrick was able to endure the abuse without losing his spirit because of advice from his father. This advice can be seen in the memoir he wrote with his wife, The Time Of My Life, where he states that his father told him that he should be proud of his gentle side because it made him a better person. He also told Patrick that he was not always going to win in life, but the only thing that mattered was that he shouldn't give up.

According to Woman, Niemi revealed at The Woman's Conference  2019, that her greatest regret over losing Patrick to pancreatic cancer was that she didn't tell him she loved him often enough. The couple was together for 34 years. Like all people, Patrick's life had ups and downs, but he has had an impact on many lives that spans generations, which is an accomplishment that most people can't claim to have done. Swayze has set a great example for young men not to give up in the face of abuse and adversity.
