Patrick Swayze was a legendary star whose memory will never be forgotten. During his life, he was incredibly successful as an actor, making his mark in the world of entertainment and stealing our hearts along the way. With films such as “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost,” it’s easy to see why Swayze was so loved and adored not only by his fans but also by his faithful wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi.

Neimi stayed by his side up until his death on Sept. 14, 2009, after Swayze lost his long battle with pancreatic cancer. The pair had a beautiful relationship, first meeting when they were teenagers before getting married in 1975. Just four years later, Swayze made his film debut, and the couple stayed happily together through all of the ups and downs their lives entailed.

After Swayze passed away, Niemi took some time to mourn the loss of her husband, as she had never known a love quite like him. That all changed when she met Albert DePrisco just a short while later, and their love story began. Niemi struggled with the idea of whether she should remarry or not, as it was clear that her love for Swayze would never go away, but she eventually took a leap of faith and tied the knot with her new love in May 2014.

Since then, Niemi has reflected on her famous former relationship with Swayze and opened up about a dream that she had about him, in which he gave her his blessing for her to remarry. Read on to find out more about this emotional story of Swayze’s widow moving forward with her love life.

Finding Love Again

It’s evident that Swayze and Niemi had a love like no other and that their relationship will always be something that the latter holds near and dear to her heart. They had been married for 34 years and even shared their love for the arts with one another, co-producing and starring alongside each other in a dance film titled “One Last Dance.”

Niemi has continued to keep her late husband’s memory alive by sharing plenty of photos of him on her Instagram, as well as using her platform to spread awareness about pancreatic cancer. While appearing on “The Doctors” in 2020, she talked more about the cause, as well as posted to her social media during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November that year.

While Niemi has continued to speak kindly about the love she will always have for Swayze, she found that she was finally ready to move on. She began dating the jeweler Albert DePrisco, whom she met through mutual friends, according to People. In May 2014, the couple tied the knot in front of more than 50 of their family members and friends at a ceremony in Palm Beach. The Daily Mail reported that they had been dating for two years beforehand.

Niemi walked down the aisle, wearing a gown designed by Oscar de La Renta, while DePrisco wore an Ermenegildo Zegna dinner jacket and custom pants. Speaking about her wedding, Niemi said, “We wanted it fresh and happy.” After the beautiful ceremony, there was a fun, light-hearted reception filled with plenty of dancing.

Dreaming About Swayze’s Blessing

Niemi and DePrisco have been together ever since. It’s clear that DePrisco understood how Niemi would always be grieving Swayze’s death and has continued to support her. “I have to say, that the love I have for Patrick was never in conflict or competition with my feelings for Albert,” Niemi said. “That is until Albert asked me to marry him!”

She had previously grappled with the idea of getting married for a while since she had been married to Swayze for so long and continued to change her mind before ultimately taking what she called a “leap of faith.”

Niemi continued, “Albert knew I still loved Patrick and would always love him, and he told me, ‘And I know you love me, and I love you.’ How could I not marry this man?” The couple’s relationship is incredibly sweet, and their connection is even evident in their wedding jewelry. According to People, Niemi’s wedding ring is a cushion-cut diamond eternity band, and she has a second band that matches DePrisco’s.

Still, Niemi has likely never stopped thinking about Swayze and believes that he would be happy for her and the new life she has now. “About a month and a half ago, I had a dream about Patrick,” she told People in May 2014. “It was like he was giving me his blessing and letting me know that it was OK. Again, it can be hard sometimes to take those steps forward, but it doesn’t change the way we feel about someone. He was letting me know.”
