Pastor Sheltered Two Homeless Babies Overnight And Adopted Them As He Realized He Knew Their Family

Back in 2016, a homeless family in Florida abandoned two toddlers amongst a group of trash bags outside of Pasco County's Metropolitan Ministries. Luckily, Pastor Ronnie Steward and his wife Krystal of Refuge Church took the two brothers in and adopted them after their biological parents signed over custody.

Regardless of circumstances, it is never acceptable to abandon an innocent, defenseless child. They cannot care for themselves, they are susceptible to injury and abuse, and the trauma that children endure can have long-reaching effects that can last a lifetime.

When Purcell Stewart found two defenseless toddlers amidst piles of garbage, clad only in diapers, he knew he had to help. Stewart, Executive Chief of Metropolitan Ministries in Pasco County, Florida, was leaving his office one cold November evening when he noticed the quiet boys sitting alone, huddled together because they were nearly naked, as Fox 13 reports. From the look of them, they appeared to be around two years and seven months old, and they hadn't been fed or cared for in some time.

Stewart knew he needed to act quickly. His kind heart was telling him that he could not walk away from this situation without doing something to ensure the boys' safety. He contacted Pastor Ron Steward and his wife to ask if they could take the boys in temporarily until a solution was found.

Pastor Ron and his wife had children of their own, yet everyone was on board with the decision to welcome the boys into their home. It was determined that before their discovery, the boys had lived with their parents in the woods, who had abandoned them when they could no longer care for them. The poor children were in terrible condition when they first came to live with the Stewards.

A new lease on life

Wife Krystal Steward told Fox 13:

"The boys were covered in bug bites from head to toe. They were so filthy that we had to fill and drain the bathtub several times just to get them clean, and as we outfitted them with proper clothing, we saw that the youngest boy didn't even have socks on. When we took off his shoes, the top layer of skin on the top of his foot actually peeled off. I cried and sang to them as they went to sleep in a warm clean bed, where they slept for nearly ten hours straight. I don't think they've ever slept in a bed before."

From temporary to permanent

What started as a temporary living situation quickly changed to a permanent placement as the entire Steward family fell in love with the two boys. Ron and Krystal have vowed to care for the boys and raise them as their own, giving them every advantage and all the love they never had been shown before. The boys are now thriving, and they have a very bright future ahead of them.
