A routine flight to the Netherlands turned into an experience the passengers are not likely to forget.

A routine flight to the Netherlands turned into an experience the passengers are not likely to forget.

The plane left Dubai on route to Amsterdam Schiphol, but had to make an emergency landing in Vienna due to a particularly pungent farting passenger caused a fist fight.

The ordeal started when an elderly gentleman began farting.

The two guys next to him expressed their disapproval, but the man continued farting anyway.

Once it was clear that their complaints were going to go unanswered, they called over a Transavia flight attendant to help resolve the issue.

Despite calling the flight attendants, nothing was done, so the man continued to fart. The men thought they were going to have to suffer through the scent of poop throughout the flight.

So, they got pissed and did what many men do when forced against a rock and a hard place with no possible escape: they used their fists.

Despite several warnings from the pilots and flight crew, the civil unrest continued.
Left with no other choice, the pilots rerouted to Vienna for an emergency landing.

Police officers and dogs were there to meet the unruly passengers.

But this is where things got even more complicated.

You see, four passengers were asked to deplane; two were the male seatmates of the farting passenger, and two were sisters of Dutch and Moroccan descent.

The sisters are now suing the airline for discrimination and poor service. According to Nora Lacchab, one of the sisters, their only crime was sitting in the same row as the disgruntled men involved in the fistfight. She maintains that they had nothing to do with the commotion whatsoever.

The 25-year-old law student recalls the ordeal as being one of disappointment, surprise, and humiliation. She believes the flight attendants could have a preconceived notion that Moroccans are troublemakers, hence the prejudice.

She believes the flight attendants made the situation worse and intends to take the case to court. Eventually, the four passengers were released from Austrian custody without charges, but all have been banned from Transavia Airlines by the company.

Despite the sisters' insistence that they took no part in the fray, the company states that the women also argued with the farting passenger.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the only time smells of poop have been enough to cancel or reroute flights.

Three years ago, a British Airways flight from London to Dubai had to turn around because the entire plane smelled of poo after a passenger used the loo.

Another time, a Virgin Australia flight had to head back to the US after a poo-filled explosion in the toilet caused a terrible smell. According to the airline, the explosion was from one of the sinks, but the passengers think otherwise.
