What do you do when your parents can't love you for who you are? This wounded soldier's story is sure to break your heart and change the way you think forever.

One brave soldier finally got his wish to go home to his parents after losing both legs and an arm in Korea. When he landed in Los Angeles, he called his parents to let him know he was back on American soil and that he'd be home soon. Unsure of how to tell his parents about what had happened to him in the war, he tested the waters by saying he was bringing his wounded friend with him.

"My friend stepped on a land mine and lost his legs and an arm. He can't live alone and I want to help him," he told his parents." "That's terrible, son. Maybe we could help him find a good place to live," his dad replied. "No, Dad, I was hoping you and Mom would let him live with us. He could really use a family right now."

"Honey, we don't think you realize how difficult it is to take care of a handicapped person," his mom said.

"They need constant care, physical therapy, and our home just isn't built to let him live here comfortably. We'd have to drop everything we're doing and spend all of our time taking care of him. We already did that when you were growing up and we just can't afford to do that again. There are tons of resources for wounded veterans nowadays. Someone else would be able to help him a lot more than we ever could."

Shocked, their son hung up the phone immediately. With no number to reach him and no idea when and if he'd ever return home, the parents couldn't stop worrying. As they later learned, their son was the wounded soldier who was terrified of how his parents would react. Their rejection was so devastating that the soldier felt like he couldn't go on. Without the support of his parents, the people who were supposed to love him the most, he had nowhere left to turn.

A few days later, the parents received a call from the Los Angeles Police Department. There was a man in the morgue who was supposedly their son. They needed to fly over there to identify the body. The parents jumped on the nearest plane and rushed into the morgue where they indeed found their dead son.

To their surprise, he was the one who had lost limbs.

They share their story now as a warning to everyone that unconditional love can truly save lives. We all need to live with open and full hearts or we could wind up losing someone we cherished.
