Parents Pulled Their Kids Out Of Girl’s Class Because Of Her Appearance - So Her Mother Decided To Teach The Bullies A Lesson

It is no secret that the United States has a bullying problem. In some cases, unfortunately, this behavior comes from the adults more than from their children.

However, one mom is fighting back.

Bailey Pretak was born with a rare condition called lamellar ichthyosis. In this disease, skin cells do not separate as normal, causing them to crack and form scales at the slightest stress. The word "ichthyosis" refers to an ancient word for fish, representing the scaly appearance of skin in people with this disorder.

Because of this disease, Bailey had to constantly moisturize and exfoliate her skin. This prevented painful peeling, but it does not prevent an unusual appearance. Bailey's parents were determined to teach her that she was beautiful despite her disorder, which made it even harder when she was brutally rejected in her first years of school.

Several parents saw Bailey and pulled their children out of the class, worried that her condition was contagious or that she otherwise was a danger to their own kids. Still others would rudely stare at young Bailey.

Bailey's mother came upon an answer to the rudeness. When people stared at her daughter, she made a point of staring back as obviously as possible. People would become uncomfortable from her unwavering gaze and then realize that this is what they were doing to the tiny girl.

With the support of her mother, Bailey was able to make it to adulthood. Decades later, she even became a beauty queen. That is a long way from the little girl that suffered so much hate - and all because of the love of her family.
