A wedding is a joyful occasion that celebrates the deep, lasting love of two people and the unity of their lives. As special as wedding celebrations are, they unfortunately can be bittersweet as well.

Many people have heard about brides and grooms who have tied the knot soon after losing a parent, but Tania and Jacob’s story is filled with the bittersweet joy of a wedding combined with the agony of a child’s pending death.

Paige had been dreaming about being a flower girl for a while, and she was eagerly looking forward to the day when her parents would tie the knot.

Unfortunately, her parents, Tania and Jacob, learned that they had very little time to make their daughter’s dream come true.

As is the case with many happy couples, Tania and Jacob had not been in a big hurry to formally get married.

However, according to Daily Mail Australia, when Paige was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was given very little time to live, the parents immediately knew that they needed to act quickly to make their daughter’s dream come true.

Paige was too ill to leave the hospital, so the couple as well as Paige’s aunt worked hard to transform the hospital room into a beautiful wedding ceremony sit.

'Something that they had wanted to do for so long was get married, and they couldn't bear the thought of Paige not being there,' Paige's aunt told Daily Mail.

A skilled photographer has captured the preparations leading up to the wedding as well as the ceremony and reception.

This was a very intimate event, but the family did everything they could to make Paige’s dream of being a flower girl a reality.

Some of the pictures captured by the photographer show little Paige resting in her hospital bed while her little sister and mother looked down on her. The mom and two girls are beautifully dressed in their gowns. Paige had a white bow in her hair.

Paige was placed in a wheelchair for the ceremony. A pink and purple knit blanket covered her legs while her white dress fluffed out around her waist. A basket of flower petals was in her lap. Her parents stood on either side of her, grasping her hand. They both appeared to be agonized by intense grief.

Other photos showed a painful combination of happiness and sorrow.
