Parents Are Debating When Is The Right Time To Take Down Holiday Decor After Christmas
Dec 29, 2022 by apost team
Christmas is a time of light and joy for families that celebrate the joyous season. In fact, the anticipation for Christmas begins quite early in many countries, usually after Thanksgiving in the United States. For others, it starts as early as September and ends in the first few weeks of January.
Radio stations begin to put all the past Christmas hits in their repertoire, shops bring out their finest Christmas decorations, and people make their way to farms to haul home the perfect Christmas tree. Moreover, the holiday spirit also brings out the best in people and imbibes a sense of kindness and generosity all around.
Some households even spend a large portion of their time, effort and money to make sure that the yuletide spirit and festive vibe are being felt in their homes. There are even families who go the extra mile to deck their living rooms and patios with the most extravagant Christmas decorations and lanterns just to celebrate the holidays.
But what happens after Christmas? Does the holiday spirit also go away when the Christmas decorations make their way back to the attic?
One user on Mumsnet asked a rather simple question related to that same mind-boggling question, and it left the internet wondering about the right answer.
User JosephFrancis asked other parents on the parenting forum — when do you take down the Christmas decorations?
While many would think the question is very simple, the responses and answers of the other users on the forum beg to differ, as most of them aren’t in congruence with each other.

In a question that OP (original poster) posted on Dec. 26, 2022, a day after Christmas in the United States, he was actually unsure when the right time is to put away his Christmas decorations.
“I am always itching to do it on Boxing Day. I don't, but I want to. I usually last until New year's Eve, but I think this year has felt really unchristmassy and I want everything taken down now! I will keep it up for the kids but does anyone else just want it all put away?” he asked on the forum.
Shortly after his post, answers began flooding in. Expecting a consensus from the thread, it looks like OP is now more confused than ever. This is because almost everyone in the thread seemed to have different opinions about it.
“Can never understand those who get their decorations down as quickly as possible. I adore my real tree and always feel sad when I have to put (it) out for recycling,” user LollipopRainbow said.
“I would love to take them down today, but we have family visiting for lunch on Thursday. We will be exchanging gifts and the buffet meal will have a festive feel. So as soon as that is over,” User Speakout revealed.
Meanwhile, a significant number of people on the thread answered that they are scheduled to take down the decorations either on or after the 5th of January, which marks the twelfth day of Christmas.
“Twelfth Night, so 5th January. Ours always go up late though — tree only decorated on the 19th this year,” user SockQueen said.
“12th night. Christmas has only just started! This year the trees went up the first Sunday in December and the outdoor lights the following week,” user BogRollBOGOF commented.
