British singer Paloma Faith is the latest celebrity to open up about raising a child outside of traditional gender roles.

The 38-year-old, who has a 2-year-old child, is yet to have publically disclosed the sex with which the child was born.

In a recent candid interview with the Sunday Times, Faith opened up about the way she is raising her 2-year-old child. Although the singer’s decision to not reveal the toddler’s gender has raised some eyebrows, she stands by her choice.

“It's just because I don't want information about [my child] out there, because I don't know who they're going to become,” she explained. “If they want to be in the public eye when they get older, then that's their choice.”

The Voice coach stressed that society, in her opinion, is too focused on traditional gender roles which leads to children becoming 'indoctrinated'.

In a seperate interview in 2017, Faith clarified that the non-disclosure of her child’s gender and name are also a matter of privacy. In fact, the 38-year-old said she only chooses not to reveal the child’s gender in public settings, such as in interviews.

"I don't want to mention my child's gender because I want them to have the choice of letting people know who their mum is when they're older," she explained. "They might be a shy person and not like the attention so I'm not going to put that on them."

"The other thing is I believe it's very important for boys to learn about nurturing and dolls do that and girls can climb trees so they can become scientists and astronauts,” she added.

The singer also mentioned in the interview that she doesn’t dress her child in gender-specific colors such as pink for girls or blue for boys, saying she “just [wants] them to be who they want to be.”
