P!nk Forbids Daughter Willow, 11, From Having A Phone Until She Can Prove Social Media Is Good For Her

Over the years, P!nk has proved through and through to everyone that an A-list celebrity and singer like her can still be an incredible mother to two without making her children feel uncared for.

Although it's been nearly two decades since the pop star's debut single hit the Billboard Hot 100, the 44-year-old performer is still shaking things up in the entertainment industry. The singer, who has brought us hits such as "Get the Party Started" and "There You Go," was born on Sept. 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

P!nk, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, began her music career in a girl band. When that didn't work out, she went solo in 1999 at the age of 20 and has never looked back.

Apart from being a trailblazer in the music industry, the punk princess has also come to be known for her quirky hairstyles throughout her career. The singer is hailed as changing the game for the pop world, not only through her edgy style of music but also for her openness, honesty and vulnerability.

P!nk is also praised for her incredible and brilliant parenthood techniques, which have been emulated by many on social media. In a conversation with 103.5 KTU, P!nk admitted that she has a special rule for Willow, her 11-year-old daughter, with regard to her use of cell phones and social media in general.

Children of young ages, as early as age 5, already know how to use a smartphone, while kids as young as 10 already have their own social media accounts. P!nk, who highlighted the negative impacts of social media on children, still has some reservations about entrusting Willow with a phone.

P!nk started a family with former motocross racer Carey Hart after they got married back in 2006. The power couple welcomed their first child, Willow, in June 2011 and later welcomed their son, Jameson Moon Hart, in December 2016. Despite being a loving mom, P!nk's family life doesn't seem to have gotten in the way of her career, however.

2021 brought a huge development in Willow’s singing career, as she released, along with her mom, their first song together, titled “Cover Me In Sunshine.” The song debuted on the video-sharing social media platform TikTok and was later released officially via RCA Records.

Talking to Drew Barrymore on her show, P!nk detailed how close her relationship with her daughter is:

“Willow and I talk about almost everything — we have a great relationship,” P!nk said.

P!nk’s trust in her daughter is huge. In fact, she even revealed in an interview that she would be giving her a job while they were on tour around the country. While she didn’t specify her daughter's job, she told TODAY that her daughter would be getting minimum wage which will vary depending on the state where she will be performing.

“Willow has a job on tour,” P!nk said. “We just had to go over minimum wage and it’s different state to state.”

Although she initially offered $22.50 per show, P!nk said her daughter got confused with all the math. So, she ended up offering Willow $25 instead. The singer admitted she still has to teach her daughter how to negotiate better.

But despite the mother and daughter's close relationship and the trust that P!nk has given Willow throughout the years, the pop star still won't let her child have a cell phone. In an interview with 103.5 KTU with Carolina Bermudez and Greg T, P!nk opened up about the fact that Willow is the only 11-year-old in her class who does not own a phone.

“It’s hard. A lot of my friends, they have their kids on TikTok, and I don’t. I told Willow, ‘That just doesn’t move my needle. They’re not my kids. You’re my kid,” she explained. “She has a lot of eyes on her too.”

What makes owning a phone and being introduced to social media more complicated for Willow is that she is the daughter of a famous person. However, P!nk revealed that her daughter has a watch where she can text if there’s an emergency or if she needs to be picked up a little later or sooner from school.

But that doesn’t mean P!nk won't allow Willow to have a phone or a social media account forever. In fact, she has one condition.

“I told her point blank: ‘If you can provide literature for me from a reputable source that tells me social media is good for you, then you can be on it.’ Otherwise, good luck,” she revealed.

P!nk gives Willow the credit for being persistent and very smart, she said:  “She could be a lawyer! She could literally pass the bar exam. She might actually find that literature, goodluck!”

Do you agree with P!nk’s decision to forbid Willow from having a phone or social media? What do you think is the right age for a child to be entrusted with a phone?
