Although it's been nearly two decades since P!nk's debut single hit the Billboard Hot 100, the 43-year-old pop star is still shaking things up in the entertainment industry. The singer, who has brought us hits such as "Get the Party Started" and "There You Go," was born on Sept. 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

P!nk, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, began her music career in a girl band. When that didn't work out, she went solo in 1999 at the age of 20 and has never looked back. According to Billboard, she has 15 top 10 hits and is one of the bestselling US music artists to date.

Apart from her music, P!nk is known for being authentic and true to herself. Her lyrics often speak about being real. Not only does this theme appear in her music, but it seems to carry over into her personal life as well. She’s often very candid about her struggles and experiences, and she often expresses her desire to be seen as a real person, not just a celebrity.

As she blossomed to become one of pop music’s earliest trailblazers, P!nk also had a fair share of obstacles to overcome and problems to solve. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the “Just Give Me A Reason” singer unpacked her experiences when she first started thinking about how to start a family at the peak of her music career.

P!nk met professional motocross racer Carey Hart in 2001. The pair started dating soon after, and two years later, they separated. Shortly after the separation, the two decided to make it work.

P!nk proposed to Hart in June 2005 during a motocross race. The couple got married in Costa Rica in January 2006. Two years later, P!nk announced that the couple had separated. To the relief of fans and loved ones, she confirmed that they were together again in February 2010. In June 2011, the couple welcomed their daughter, Willow Sage. In December 2016, they welcomed their second child — a son, Jameson Moon.

Since then, P!nk has been working her way tirelessly to incorporate her touring and music career while still performing as a mother and homemaker.

In a November 2022 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, P!nk spoke candidly about the “impossible” challenge of being a mother and a pop star on tour:

“You get to a point where you're like, ‘I'm gonna kill myself, I can't do everything,' so you have to decide ‘what is this one thing I'm going to give to myself' and try not to feel guilty about, and for me, it was breakfast, and ... I nailed it.”

After asking her “sleep trainers” to devise a sleep schedule for her daughter Willow as she accompanied her on tour, P!nk revealed that other “mom popstars” later reached out to her to ask for pointers on how to make motherhood and touring work together well, and she revealed she ended up writing the entire playbook for it.

Since then, P!nk has been praised for finding a way to manage the complicated life of being a parent. However, the road leading there is a huge maze to solve.

Growing up with a complicated family dynamic, P!nk’s desire to have her own family and children was something of a top priority for her. In Zane Lowe’s Apple Music podcast, P!nk unpacked her family woes that contributed to how she is right now as a mother and an artist.

"Having a family was really important to me because my family life was screwed as a kid, and I'm super affectionate and cuddly and goofy. Just doing music wasn't enough for me. I was lonely. I was so lonely. It's a very lonely business," she said on the podcast.

That is why it shocked P!nk when she expressed her thoughts to people in the entertainment industry about having a family during the height of her career.

"Everyone told me, 'If you have children right now, your career's over,” she recalled. "And I think that's when my career began, really. I mean, I did a lot of stuff before that, but really, truly, I think it's when I started to really understand myself and understand the world and my place in it."

P!nk made it perfectly clear that she wanted to have children and a family, even likening not having kids to a bunny who was given a carrot but still wanted more.

As a mother and an artist, the Grammy-winning singer also emphasized that while she loved performing, spending time with her kids brings her the most joy.

“I love writing songs. I love singing songs. I love performing. Sitting with a guitar is one of my favorite things I'll ever do, but cuddling with my babies and taking them camping and being dirty for three days is also one of the coolest things I'll ever do, and making wine also happens to be pretty cool,” she explained.
