Owners Set Dog Up To Be Euthanized Due To ‘Bad Breath’

It’s a sad fact that many pet owners give up their furry companions for the most trivial of reasons. Some people bring their dog to the shelter when it gets too old, while others give their dog up for not being housebroken when it was never trained in the first place. While it’s true that some owners just shouldn’t be allowed to have pets, they continue to adopt new ones just to drop them back off at the shelter again.

This leaves the animal with psychological issues from being abandoned, and they are often neglected, malnourished or suffering from untreated health conditions. One set of owners turned in their dog for a reason that is so ridiculous, it’s now sparking outrage among the animal lover community.

Oso was a cute and healthy puppy when he was adopted from an animal shelter located in San Jose. However, his owners did not take care of him properly, which resulted in some health problems for the sweet dog. He was in such bad shape that his teeth were rotting and falling out of his mouth. The blog Tales of a Shelter Vet documented the story.

After seeing what bad shape he got into at their fault, the owners decided to return him to the shelter. But that isn’t the only horrible thing about this story. The owners requested that the sad dog should be euthanized due to his bad breath and rotting teeth.

Of course, the shelter denied these absurd requests. Turns out that Oso’s teeth were also painful, so he had 21 of them removed in a procedure. This left him with only one remaining tooth. However, after his surgery, he was happier and able to eat and drink without issue. In a shocking twist of events, the owners even had the guts to ask that their dog be returned now that he was back in good spirits.

But thanks to the love and care of a few veterinarians and members of the shelter, Oso was not only nursed back to health but eventually found a new forever home that will take care of him for the rest of his days. We’re happy to hear that Oso got his happy ending after being neglected for so many years.
