Owners Abandoned Puppy Along With Old Chair, Leaving Him Waiting For Their Return

Imagine you're driving and you see that someone has haphazardly tossed a recliner on the side of the road. It's a bold move, leaving trash on the side of the road rather than taking it to a dump. But then you notice that it's not just a chair on the side of the road, but sitting in the chair is an adorable brown puppy dog.

This is exactly what happened to Sharon Norton, who is an animal control officer in Brookhaven, MS. On June 24, she received a call about an abandoned puppy sitting in a recliner on the side of the road. Apparently, its owner abandoned it along with the furniture. Upon investigation, sure enough, there was an adorable puppy just sitting in the armchair waiting for its owner to return.

Sharon was angry. Who would abandon such a precious creature? Sadly, some people don't have the time, energy, or desire to take care of their pets, so they abandon them rather than caring for them, finding them another home, or taking them to a relocation shelter. In this instance, the puppy was obviously domesticated, as it was sitting in the chair patiently waiting for its owner. It was scared, too afraid to hunt, and confused as to why its owner hadn't returned.

Sharon was able to get the puppy some help, but not before she took a few pictures of the dog and posted them on Facebook, letting the world know that someone was so cruel to abandon the puppy. Sharon noted on Facebook that someone had abandoned the dog and that it was patiently waiting for the owner to return. She also noted that the puppy was malnourished because it was too scared to hunt for food. Her post received a lot of attention and led to a community outcry over animal cruelty. The caption of the post read: 

To the person that dumped this chair, your puppy was waiting for you to come back,,slowly starving to death because it was afraid to leave the chair to find food. shame on you for doing this to this puppy.. but one day Karma will meet up with you

Eventually, the puppy was taken to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League where it has received medical attention and being given the opportunity for a new home once it is better nourished and feeling better.

Luckily, this story does have a happy ending, because Sharon was able to rescue the puppy in time and give it the care it needed. Some animals aren't so lucky. They are abandoned and left to die and no one comes to rescue them. According to the ASPCA, approximately 1.5 million animals are euthanized each year because they can't find a home. It is horrible that someone would abandon animals, leaving them to fend for themselves or to be picked up by animal control, where they may face a worse fate.
